Actually that's a great point, maybe sub a dance tent headliner.. if so I'd be dreaming of him subbing Wilkinson, Oliver Heldens into Knife Party would probably be the best night at the fest for me.

yeah can see that, would just be nice to obviously see an album out from then before R&L (this could be in the works, i don't know, not done my research...) but I'm sure it'll be good....in 2013 everyone was saying all weekend about how good they were then, so I'm excited to see what they're like....last time i saw them was 2008 opening MainStage and i thought they were dreadful (couldn't make out any of the songs, and was still wildly bitter about Slipknot cancelling)

They've got one due out at the start of the summer - hopefully in enough time to get a few listens in before the festival

Closest thing that springs to mind is No Doubt, but once they became popular Gwen Stefani went solo and did pop music.

2008 Bring me the horizon were a dreadful band. They're improving with every album and I personally think they'll smash this sub slot

Totally agree - Suicide Season was awful, but Sempiternal was really good.

They're being touted as one of the next festival circuit headliners

There's more of an issue with attitudes towards bands with women in - the amount of times I've heard people refer to Paramore as gay (for seemingly no other reason than they have a female front) is just saddening. Entirely uneducated on this topic so just my mostly ignorant thoughts.

Fortunately I am at the age now where that kind of line would just be laughed at as stupidity and therefore is not one I have heard

I don't see an issue with the lack of female artists at Reading. The best acts should be picked regardless of age, gender, race etc... That is exactly what's happening right now.

I think that they will justify the sub slot. As you've said, they're one of the bands who will be stepping up to headline festivals in the near future.

As for albums, I love Suicide Season. Sempiternal is the album they will build on to become even more successful. Count Your Blessings shouldn't even be talked about as it's just not the same band at all, that whole album was a mess. There Is A Hell... Is their best work for me, absolutely storming album.

Thanks i was just wondering because when you go on the site and it shows the lineup they aren't really in that column they are sort of just there. Also you got any idea when the bbc 1 xtra stage schedule will be sorted out?

Yeah, I just had a look to see what was showing on the site and noticed the dance stage is scattered. The poster floating around last night had the headliners aligned to days though and BBK was Friday.

Not sure about 1Xtra stage.. or when the next announcement in general will be tbh!... anyone?

A frontwoman band that should be added is Best Coast. Bethany announced their new album is due out in May and I think they played the NME stage in 2011.

But on a serious note, it does feel wrong to single out R&L (2012 for example shows they have no problem with booking female acts, in big slots to.) for it. Maybe there isn't that many females/female fronted acts around that are suitable for R&L?

The question should be directed more towards the music industry itself/schools and how they promoting music girls than Festivals. Its not like Reading has any particulary glaring omissions that they could have chosen this year? (Acts that not working on album/played last year please...)

I'd strongly agree with this, they could have pushed for Florence but there isn't really an issue of not wanting to based on gender discrimination there. Blood Red Shoes, Warpaint, Chvrches, Paramore, Tonight Alive all in high slots last year, I think its quite unfair on Reading tbh.
