Bisque
1D would be a disaster as they don't really want all their tickets to go to under 15's, if they could go as they'd have to go with parents. Would be excellent for day tickets which is the fests biggest earner. Plus parents would get shit faced buying booze if they knew they had to stand through 1D. Babyquack
You've not heard of 5ive? You'd probably like them. 1D would be a disaster as they don't really want all their tickets to go to under 15's, if they could go as they'd have to go with parents. Jack White is from one of the biggest bands of the 00's so I don't see it as odd really. He's had plenty of R1 play over the years. I'll look them up. If they ever find themselves struggling to get a major ticket seller though, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to book 1D to flog loads of day tickets and a fair amount of weekends too. I guess, I just found it odd because the tent looked dead throughout the whole thing apart from Seven Nation Army right at the end. He clearly wasn't an act anyone there really knew bar the most famous of songs from TWS.
Yellow_Fellow
Can anyone tell me the difference in size of: TitP & V vs R&L's arenas? Just wondered why an open air second stage has never been used to warrant booking bigger or more established acts, replacing or coexisting with the NME tent?I've not been in 4 years but V is marginally bigger than R&L in sheer square footing
tyranicide
I figured if Justin Timberlake is headling take that can too.
dentalplan
I don't reckon they're that similar, nevertheless I don't think it's impossible that a boyband could headline festivals but the likes of Take That and One Direction are the only ones big enough and would probably rather play their own tours than grab a fee off of V Festival or something. Take That's tour a few years ago made the band like £10m each after tax - they'd only receive a fraction of that for a festival, and One Direction have done or are doing a stadium tour that will be far more lucrative than a fest appearance. Basically what I'm saying is the ones big enough don't need to do it/would command a much higher fee. TheSilence
Yeah I can see smaller groups like that in Little Mix etc having reason to do festivals but for groups like Take That I don't really see there being a need to.
Bisque
I've not been in 4 years but V is marginally bigger than R&L in sheer square footing I know there's licence laws but why no open air second stage then?
Gucci Piggy
I know there's licence laws but why no open air second stage then? I assume they'd make less profit?

mrtourette
I know there's licence laws but why no open air second stage then? License laws. More stages than V (so need to consider sound bleed more). History/tradition. Edited May 1, 2014 by mrtourette
DarthSaul
Is there just one open air stage at Reading then? I haven't yet been
dentalplan
License laws. More stages than V (so need to consider sound bleed more). History/tradition. I heard the legacy of Reading Festival had been destroyed. Is there just one open air stage at Reading then? I haven't yet been Just the one large one; there are one or two tiny open air stages. Gucci Piggy
By not renting a tent? By having another outdoor stage to accommodate larger acts, either alongside or instead of the NME tent...
