Favourite Venue?

Spin off of the favorite gig thread. What's everyone's favorite venue and why?

For me it's gotta be the Concorde 2 in Brighton. Pretty much grown up watching gigs there, seen the likes of The Walkmen, Daniel Johnston, The Fall, The GO! Team, Blood Red Shoes and The Wedding Present there and all gigs have been fantastic.

Buried underneath a walkway so the acoustics are brilliant, staff are friendly and the atmosphere in there is always spot on.

Big fan of Brixton.

OK, so its an o2 academy so the bar is a rip off, but for a london venue its fairly easy to get to, its a good looking venue and has character, they get great bands, the sound is always excellent (and loud) and the slope means a much better view for the shorties (like my missus) than most venues. Had more good nights there in my life than any other venue

All my favourite venues are now sadly gone. The Marquee in Wardour Street, The Mean Fiddler in Harlesdon as well as the Hammersmith Palais. Saw a great many bands in all three back in the 80s. Can't say I have any preference now as I rarely go to gigs these days, just festivals.

The hate for Ally Pally is outstanding  I say it many times, but I always defend it a bit as it was the first place I saw a proper gig!

I think Brixton Academy is maybe my favorite, never been to bad gig there so far. It has great acts playing it on a regular basis. The sloped floor really does give a great view, so you don't have to be to far from the bar. Plus it's one of very few venues where the bar/bar staff seem to be about right for getting a drink in for the number of people! Only downside, it does take about 50 minutes for me to get to, but its an easy journey really.

I quite like Heaven when that has gigs on, nice and intimate and has had a nice atmosphere every time I have been.

I actually don't mind the o2 as much as some, I think its the convenience in living 15 minutes away :P As Arena's go, i like it.

I'm in two minds about the Hammersmith Apollo, it feels really overly packed in the standing section like they have let to many people in and seems to have bar trouble when I ever I've been but when I went for Ben Howard in June, I found on the gent's toilets side to have a nice gap to race down the side and get to near the front and on that side it was a lot less packed.

I used to really like Manc Apollo and Brixton but not been in yonks :(

Agree on the Rock City shout, been to so many great shows there!

De Montfort Hall in Leicester is pretty cool, but again, not been to a show there in ages (Muse touring Origin of Symmetry!)

Oh and the Roundhouse was great when I went, Koko was good fun too!

Shepherd's Bush Empire, especially the first balcony....

Kentish Town Forum

Brixton Academy

Only been to Koko twice, but that's good

Festival Hall

Nashville Rooms when it was around

most pub venues

Madame Jojo's

Ally Pally is horrendous. I've never experienced anything close to a decent sound there, or the O2 arena...

The electric ballroom in Camden's nice!

Brixton's a great venue too,

The Roundhouse is nice too I must say.

Outside of London, I haven't been to too many concerts yet but The Kasbah in Coventry is a lovely little venue! I saw White Lies do a warm up for T there in 2011 and it was great :)

Really depends on the sort of band you're seeing and therefore what atmosphere you're looking for.

The acoustics for Bright Eyes at the Albert Hall were unbelievable. Also loved The Troxy and Roundhouse.

But on the same level, it would be weird to see someone like Springsteen anywhere smaller than a stadium.
