Elton John!?

Please let me set my stall out before you judge.

I am not what you would call an Elton John fan by any stretch of the imagination. He has a worthy back catalogue and is an first-class performer but... he's not exactly 'Glastonbury' is he?.

When asked in an interview in 2005 "Would you ever play Glastonbury". He said "Oh no, I'm too much like the Queen mother". But also bear in mind that Charles and Harry themselves have turned up at the last two Glastonbury's.

Indeed, he has played at almost every 'Establishment' bash going during his career. He is about Establishment as it gets from a mainstream musical performer. Your parents probably like him, your grand parents definitely like him, your cousin, or weird uncle, with no taste in music whatsoever likes him. BUT... wouldn't it still be nice to see/hear him tinkling the ivory's on the Pyramid stage? Wouldn't it REALLY be a Glastonbury moment to sing along to?. If he picked the right tunes, it really would be something special.

With all the boxes he has ticked in his long career, he must have some desire to tick this unusual box. Imagine if he pulled out a Elton John and Friends performance with a handful of the artists he has collaborated with?

Just throwing it out there as a suggestion. I really wont be crestfallen if it never happened. But after over 20 visits to the fields of Avalon, I can't help thinking that that it would fit in with the 'history' of Glastonbury.

*fully expect vitriol and accusations of my historical drug abuse for even daring to post this*

He was amazing at bestival. No special guests needed. He has the tunes, he still has the talent in abundance. First class performer. He would be an excellent pyramid stage headliner. Everybody dancing and singing to "I'm still standing" was one of the moments of my summer.

Saying that, Bestival was his only festival since 1969. That either means he's done the unusual gig now and that's our lot, or he will want to do some more. There's no doubt he had an amazing time at bestival. In his iTunes festival interview he said it was one of the best gigs of his life

It was £290K over a 20 month period. In total over that period he spent £40M. He said, at the time, that he liked flowers and that he had nobody to leave his money to, so why not.

I can't stand the bloke ( although he might be quite OK in real life) or his music, but wouldn't mind if he played Glastonbury as there are other places on site I could be.

I reckon he has the festival bug after playing bestival, he really seemed to enjoy himself so wouldnt rule him out.

After all for one of the biggest musical legends of late, glastonbury seem to be in trend at the moment of gigs you do before you die.

Its whether glastonbury would have him headline AFTER playing a smaller festival, and i doubt eltons ego would have him do anything other than headline.
