Crap bands and their crap songs

Prelude III -> Opalescant is just obscene. No one should be allowed to write sequential tracks like that.

There was a really nice Vice article about Rolo Tomassi which basically said what I've been saying for half a decade, in that Rolo Tomassi are the truest, most progressive pioneers in heavy music at the moment.

Ive been saying similar things about them to my friends since I first saw them in 2010 (so half a decade) OMG MAYBE WE R THE SAME PERSON OR TWINS? (NOt identical of course, I couldnt pull of your look without looking like a hippy stoner who accidentally stepped into a time machine at Woodstock 69 and had travelled to the present day)

But ye, Rolo, the amount of talent and the varying styles they can perfectly cater for is just extraordinary. I mean the two singles from the album really do sum them up; you have Opalescent which, like I said before, has such a melodic vibe but yet so technical and Stage Knives is just insane. How they aren't where, say, architects is or While She Sleeps- is beyond me because IMO Rolo is superior to both. I challenge anyone on this forum to name one band who can do what Rolo do.

Yeah I'm ready to call Grievances their masterpiece but I said that about Cosmology AND Astraea so basically they're just a very, very good band and they keep making very, very good albums

Anyone think Funereal sounds like Deafheaven?

First 2 minutes sounds like Converge to me then the other 3 Deafheaven, which is pretty dam awesome if you ask me

I preferred Crystal Cascades -> Chandelier Shiver, also I'd agree. You're starting to hear their sound in a few places now, heck I'd even say that Bring Me The Horizon brought some of it with Sempiternal (don't worry Rolo Tomassi are better).

I'd say that Lost Together//Lost Forever took influence from Rolo Tomassi

But then in the album there's Crystal Cascades, and then there's Funereal. The entire thing kicks off with Dillinger levels of brutality, but at times you'd be mistaking it for a Yndi Halda album.

Fuckin beautiful. If you're reading this, pay attention

Estranged reminded me of the first time I listened to Jane Doe by Converge which starts off with Concubine, which isn't a bad thing as that song and album both fucking rule

It is probably my 3rd favourite album of the year, with Pimp A Butterfly and The Mindsweep (sorry, I'm a fanboy though, Grievances is probably better though) just above it.

Also started to listen to for the 2nd time and it is even better this time so it could crawl to the top in the end :P

Death grips and Bjork make up my top five with turbowolf in 6th so not the dissimilar...

I listened to Lightning Bolt on spotify, their picture on related artists drew me in. I believe they have a staticy sound? Is that right? Not listened to them too much. I've probably got the wrong band but I seem to remember them sounding like the lead sing was singing through a megaphone.

The annoying thing about Bjork is, her album isn't on spotify and thats where I listen to the vast majority of my music, I have her album on my laptop- just don't have my laptop with me atm.

May as well do a top 5

1. Enter Shikari - The Mindsweep (I can this not even making the top 5 at the end tbf)

2. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly

3. Rolo Tomassi - Grievances

4. Death Grips - The Powers That B

5. Viet Cong - Viet Cong

Also when The Wonder Years bring out their new album I can see it that going straight to the top :P

Is that Viet Cong album good then? I've still got to listen to that, and Mini Mansions. Might give the Marina & the Diamonds record a go too, seems to be getting great reviews.

My top 5 right now are probably;

  1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
  2. Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
  3. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
  4. Young Fathers - White Men Are Black Men Too
  5. Drenge - Undertow
The Drenge one has really surprised me because I didn't like their debut at all.

Yeah mine's more like this than the ones up there. ^

Tobias Jesso Jr and maybe Sleater-Kinney slotting in 4/5 though.

I think Cherry Bomb is pretty weak.

I don't think I've listened to anything enough to rank them in a top 5, and I've probably only listened to 5 albums this year.

Courtney Barnett, Father John Misty, Kendrick Lamar and Sleater-Kinney's albums are all sick tho. Sleater-Kinney probably the best of the lot. Also listened to For All My Sisters once but can't remember what it was like.

Edit: Yep, 5 albums. I'm a dickhead.
