The National

Arcade Fire have one album as good as the good National albums but it is better than all of them in fairness.

I also prefer The National live in general but Arcade Fire in Scunny was a much better gig than any National show I've seen.

It's a pretty even debate imo but on a personal level The Natty take it.

Tbf I've never seen The National, and only know TWFM and Boxer, so not a fully backed up opinion. But I think they're considered the best 2 albums? So like, I at least know the most popular stuff. But then Reflektor is the 2nd least popular AF album and it's the best of the lot so that doesn't mean much. Putting Boxer on now actually cos I've just remembered I was properly getting into it a month or two back, especially Mistaken For Strangers which is ridiculously good.

There's not really much between those two, Alligator, High Violet and Sleep Well Beast tbh. I feel like Alligator, Boxer and High Violet are the fans' favourites. Alligator and Boxer are their best albums imo. Definitely listen to Alligator next - it has some of their biggest songs on it (Mr November, Abel) and some of their best songs (All the Wine, Daughters of the Soho Riots, Lit Up, Secret Meeting).

Edit: Fuck I just realised you said Reflektor is the best Arcade Fire album.

Ah yeah I forgot Alligator, I know that is highly rated too. I will listen to it this week. And I actually will unlike you with Hot Chip.

I can't really pick a favourite between Funeral, The Suburbs, and Reflektor. But Reflektor has the song of the decade (Reflektor) on it, and it's also the choice that pisses people off when I say it's the best, so those two things give it the edge.

Took me ages to get properly into TWFM but I agree now that it's their best. Probably would agree with the placing of the rest to tbh (although Alligator/Boxer/High Violet do swap places in my list fairly regularly).

TWFM is without doubt top for me. The rest are usually based on which ones I’ve listened to most recently.

Boxer

Alligator

High Violet

TWFM

Sleep Well Beast.

For me Clive.

Although the middle three can be subject to change, although I think this is kind of based on how much time I've give them. A lot of the time when I stick TWFM I end up caving and sticking Boxer. Or I think there's more of my favourites on Boxer, Alligator and High Violet.

High Violet

SWB

Boxer

Alligator

TWFM

The trio of England, Conversation 16 and Vanderlyle sticks High Violet at the top for me. Dark Side of the Gym makes SWB worthy of second place, although I love Empire Line almost as much. Feels harsh sticking TWFM at the bottom, apologies to the Pink Rabbit lovers.

I remember them saying recently that they had come to the end of their Sleep Well Beast tour. So anyone seeing them next summer may well get some good mixed up set lists. Assuming they don't release anything new before then which I don't see happening.

Chronologically is the only way to rank the AF albums.

Indeed. Although for me it is tight between Funeral and Neon Bible. Both are great. And both are better than Sleep Well Beast, and possibly on a par with Boxer and Alligator.
