The Castlefield Bowl gig was strangely flat, a shame as it can be a great venue when it's pumping.

I mean, I like em, but The National are hardly a band who get a crowd pumping. Them playing massive venues like that always seems at total odds with the music that they’re playing so it’s not too surprising that it falls completely flat a lot of the time.

So to put it plainly, is this venue shit? And if so what makes it shit? As long as the sound is good it's fine for me.

I saw Caribou there and he was fine tbh.

The room itself is quite large as obviously it's intended for big club nights so it's quite strange to see a medium sized indie band get announced for there. Apparently the capacity is around 6k so they should sell that out so I don't think it'll be an issue or anything.

Bar queues were non existent for Caribou as well which was a bonus!

It's probably just my opinion, the venue isn't terrible it's just huge and the sound echoes a bit if it's not heavy on the bass. I saw Chic there, was in front of the mixing desk at the back of the room and could barely hear the vocals. I know they have a great soundsystem in there so that's not the problem. The toilets are shit though, portaloos only

Did it not sell well?

Had the vibe of a lot of people in there because tickets were cheap/free.

I overheard people saying that they'd got in with forged tickets - there was minimal checking on the gate. I can't remember being at a gig like that where the security were having to wade into the crowd so often. And people were just falling down drunk near me.

Can't be worse than Victoria Warehouse surely?

Second this - the sound in that place is shocking.

I've been to about 3 of those Castlefield gigs and I get the impression a big portion of the crowd either get complimentary work based tickets, or just get tickets for a laugh / not necessarily fans of the band they're seeing but fancy a big piss up in the sun in Manchester. Our office sometimes gets offered freebies to go by suppliers or for networking with clients.  So the vibe has always been a bit tense with groups of pissed lads for every gig I've been to there.

Thanks.

Will probably get tickets for this over All Points East then

Yeah - also not familiar with how the Ticketmaster presale works. Is this something you need to pay for?

I think you have to be signed up to their (Ticketmaster's) email list with The National specifically selected as one of your favourite artists
