mrtourette
Dear reader, This is a thread to summarise all of the ideas being thrown about in the 2014 lineup thread but that may get lost amongst the variety of intense intellectual debates that such musical discussion naturally morphs into (for intellectual musical debates, read Neutral Milk Hotel and Smashing Pumpkins circlejerking). Use this as a refence point if you want to see if anything about a band has been mentioned, or if you're unsure why a number of people are predicting a certain band to headline (although to be honest the vast majority of the time there's no logical reason so you won't have missed out on anything). This isn't any kind of official information, just a collection of thoughts and potential clues that may (highly likely) or nor turn out to be complete bollocks. There are very few serious clues as of yet but when they start coming in we can organise the list into probable, possible, unlikely, etc.Relevant (reliable) information Arctics and two US bands co-headlining are remaining headliners (from luckysalt) Arctics were down as a rumour on efestivals but then taken off (pending cryptic comment from Neil) Public vote definitively proves Kanye West is a c**t Arctic Monkeys Pros - IOW boss has said that they haven't booked them but that they're playing 'elsewhere'. Cons - likely to have competiton from V. - supposedly do not have a great relationship with R&L. - would two Finsbury park gigs and TITP detract from potential ticket sales too much?QOTSA Pros - good candidate for a 'new' headliner after subbing twice. - current tour runs until May so could continue into the Summer nicely. Cons - too small? - have announced early Summer European festivals so may not still be around come AugustParamore Pros - did early Summer festival circuit last year (and none in the UK) so could be back for the late festivals this year. - good candidate for a 'new' headliner after subbing twice. Cons - too small? - current US tour ends in March, no plans beyond that yet.Kings Of Leon Pros - still touring current album, but... Cons - current US tour ends in March, no plans beyond that yet.Pearl Jam Pros - touring new album next year. Cons - rumoured Milan show in June would suggest they're in Europe the early part of Summer. - Matt Cameron choosing to concentrate on Pearl Jam instead of Soundgarden backs this up as Soundgarden are in Europe in June.Blur Pros - haven't played a UK fesival since their latest 'comeback'. Cons - expecting them to be around and touring for three Summers in a row may be asking too much. The Prodigy Pros - probably available next year. Cons - too small?Stone Roses Pros - When they reformed Melvin Benn said it would be 'inappropriate' to headline R&L that year but that he'd like to book them in the future. Cons - no indication of any plans for next year.Black Sabbath Pros - apparently were in talks to play this year so could still be on FR's radar. Cons - announced June festivals as being the end of their tour.Kanye West Pros - c**t. Cons - c**t.No chance Linkin Park - headlining Download Arcade Fire - US tour dates over R&L weekend Metallica - headlining Soni Edited December 4, 2013 by mrtourette
jump
You could probably put in Prodigy cons as they aren't big enough to headline according to Gazza. Also those headliners look lackluster imo! Edited November 6, 2013 by jump
kaosmark2
I think you need to put the "too recent" arguments in, without invoking any sort of rule. Particularly for AF and KoL. Oh, and before anyone else mentions him, Kanye is a c**t.

dentalplan
Good work! Obligatory problem though; wouldn't Metallica's biggest con be that they won't have a new album? It would be a bloody con if they headlined without one. We've only got Black_Crow's word they're 'doing Soni' and that's disputed by Luckysalt, who wins the almighty source war. mrtourette
Can't decide on The Prodigy, I think the word that sums up every aspect of their booking is 'meh'? Too big to sub? Too small to headline? Are they likely to be around? Would they be interested? What slot would they want? Does anyone really care? (these are rhetorical questions by the way Gazza). There seems to be no real overriding thoughts either way about anyhting to do with The Prodigy ever, they just sit in the middle every year until they're officially ruled out. Frankly Mr Shankly
The Prodigy are easily big enough to headline, no question about it.
kaosmark2
If KOL are too soon then does that mean Arctics are?
mrtourette
They have Lulu! It may abe the case FR want to fuck with Soni's plans so are booked up just to prevent Soni's comeback, it's just a theory tho. Also if AC/DC are touring next year and up for fests are they worth making a quick note about?

mrtourette
I think they're both borderline. I'm convinced that they certainly won't both be booked. KoL aren't quite as much of a behemoth in terms of popularity over here as Arctics and hence why I think it'd be more of a problem for them. mrtourette
Apparently they are but all the talk has been from people with sources.

Andy_47
Not an inspiring list sadly. QOTSA, Pearl Jam and Arctic Monkeys would be the best possible scenario I guess.
jump
and if they were considered pure header it wouldn't be the case. I still think t and v 2nd stage

kaosmark2
100% logical, Arctics are popular enough not to have to worry about repeating too soon, but I can't be doing with the "OMG you put KOL down as too sonn but no AM when they played the same year you SPAZ" . Also this kind of logic suggest that the five year rule does not exist and instead the organisers make an informed decision based on the suitability of the gap on a variety of factors, WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS NOT TRUE.
