R+L New Band Listener Thread - 2014 Edition

Too much Muse and not enough viewing this thread.

Sound of 2014 seems crap for my tastes; they've mostly gone for singers with minimalist beats again.

I don't even listen to Muse often :( I listened to The 2nd Law the other day when walking to the shop and that was the first Muse album I've listened to in months.

To be honest I've not listened to most things in here. I tend to see who's posted them and decide it's probably not to my taste.

Just listened to Royal Blood for the first time, quite like what I'm hearing.

I didn't listen to them for ages as I expected them to be this year's Bastille or whatever. I eventually gave them a go and thought they sounded quite good.

Yeah I've seen them a couple of times but have given up hope of them playing R+L (this year would make a lot of sense though) but they do massive tours regularly so if they're ever in your towns then go along. I hope he's not making cups of tea though - or is making cups of tea in turn with the Nick, Alex, Jamie and Matt - as there wouldn't have been an Arctic Monkeys if it wasn't for Milburn. :P

Coffee man, coffee.

Yeah I know. Thinking about it, it would've been a good move to get Tom and his band supporting at Finsbury Park this summer actually. Ah well.

Well we can get them at R&L if we want... #whynotdeadsons

I know - I changed it. They don't do coffee In Yorkshire I'm afraid. That's why I only get coffee at train stations.

It probably would've been a decent move but they'd already played that card last large outdoor shows at Don Valley. It'd be decent money for them but I'm sure they don't want to be 'the Arctic Monkeys support band' for their career. Also, I think the hashtag-based festival request scene is dead. #whynotratm on announcement day(!?!) killed it.

Sam Smith winning sound of 2014 was obvious to see coming seeing as he guested in two big hits of 2013... however I don't think he's really anything credible. Expect him to play low on the glastonbury MainStage and probably R/L NME this year.

HAIM ended up becoming pretty big worldwide... I must admit I am a fan, I really did like their debut album.

Don't see how he's not credible but yeah, the whole Sound of 2014 list is probably gonna be popping up at UK festivals. I'd say though that Haim are a different beast as they're a band and they do fall into the indie pop sort of bag but the way R+L is moving and the way music is apparently moving, we will probably see a load of these John Newman types taking up valuable slots.

Good shout with Dead Sons, they sound great

How many people on here like Twenty One Pilots? They played last year, and don't know how big a crowd they they got, but they've sold out the Manchester Academy for their upcoming tour.
