Most of Dylan.

Most of Velvets & Lou.

98% of blues and psych.

99.999999% of prog.

99.9999999999% of the great jazz records.

Oh, and fucking Astral Weeks.

Don't get me started on classical. I mustve listened to a few thousand hours of the Grateful Dead in recent years and barely scratched the surface of them. No time for classical really.

I can't stand Bob Dylan so I am definitely not going to bother with any of his stuff. He is a terrific song writer, I just can't stand his voice. There are always better cover versions of his songs.

The Stones I have always seen as more of a singles band. I do like them, I have just never sat down and listened to one of their albums though (apart from a best of).

Great thread.

Blood On The Tracks and OK Computer were bought, listened to, put in the CD rack, and have both stayed there ever since I think.

The other day a work colleague of a similar age to me mentioned that he's never seen Pulp Fiction. That's pretty "Jaw On Floor" isn't it?

On a similar note, I'm tempted to start a thread along the lines of "Classic Albums That You Only Ever Play One Side Of". Bringing It All Back Home & Desire immediately spring to mind.

Is there anyone who would deny that Nevermind, Sgt Pepper or Bridge over trouble water aren't classics? I'm sure there are some albums which are lodged in the consciousness of generations of music lovers, whether they are a personal favourite or not. I've never listened to Pet sounds, but I accept that for many it is a seminal record and has been hugely influential. If you define classics by your own taste you aren't really defining classics at all.

Meta-review lists like the one posted earlier are a good indicator of public opinion though.

Yeah, that's what Pet sounds is to me. The album that you know you should listen to, that you know is likely to change your perspective on other stuff in your life when you understand that influence but still you know...you could just stick Doolittle on one more time instead.
