Capacity at KC?

A large group of us are going to be defecting from Rockness after 6 loyal years given the current announcement debacle. We've pretty much agreed on Kendal Calling as it seemed of a similar size but after looking around for capacity figures it looks like KC is much smaller. Rockness was around 30-35k. Does anybody know how many people will be at kendal calling this year?

I seem to recall (possibly on here somewhere) that they got a license increase from 2012 from 15,000 to 20,000 which was to be phased over the three years.

Yeah the official licence was for a maximum of 20,000 which included staff and bands as well. Not sure if theyll make a full jump to that amount this year as 2012 had its problems so they said there would be no capacity increase in 2013. Instead they were gonna try and put right the problems they had with both layout and toilets.

It was obvious that theyd given it some thought because it was a massive improvement in layout, looking around the camp areas you could tell it could take an increase in campers quite easily, reckon theyll probably try for somewhere between the oriinal 15,000 and 20,000 to see how the arena copes with the extra bodies before they push it further.

It seemed like they were testing the layout for the next step last yr, there definately seemed the space to get an extra few thousand in certain areas.

Seems a wasted experiment if they aint got the possability of pushing the capacity up much

Errrrr not saying they all used the the site infrastructure ie , camping !

That's how many wristbands guests locals band hangers on !

So they know the arena can cope now it's time to turn the G list down and sell more tickets if that makes sense !

Makes sense i suppose, if there were that many on site then they know the arena will take it which was probably more of a concern than the camping areas which can just be extended if necessary

What you looking for in a festival ? Never been to rockness but if you let us know the sort of atmosphere or festival experience your after im sure we could tell you if youre likely to find it at Kendal Calling

I've been to both, Rockness 2010 and Kendal Calling 2012 and I have to say I enjoyed Kendal much more, More things going on, less bams and for me better music, but I suppose thats down to personal taste. Rockness tends to be far more dancier and Kendal more indie. Kendal balances gigs feeling busy without feeling like a sardine like Titp
