Not sold out, why?

I'm unsure where people get these stories from, a few days ago folk were saying V had only sold 40,000 for both legs.

I can see wireless struggling though, a new festival usually does.

So where do people get these figures from? Genuine question.

40,000 for Chelmsford and Stafford or 40,000 Chelmsford and 40,000 Stafford?

I'm not saying he's small in terms of superstardom. I think what I am trying to say is that he doesn't have the mass appeal as someone like Beyonce - who both the girls and boys would enjoy watching. He's more for your female audience and probably doesn't have as much cross appeal as Mrs Jay Z. Certainly from my own perspective anyway.

Having seen both live in the last 12 months I can confirm the audience for JT was a lot more diverse in terms of just about every factor - age, class, ethnicity, gender - than the audience for Beyonce. And that's despite my experience of Beyonce being at a festival, where you'd expect a more diverse audience automatically.

the sales for wireless have been dreadful apparently in brum.

You only need to notice how they've gone in massively heavy on marketing the Brum leg and barely mentioned the London leg at all over the last few weeks to know that.

Rumour has it overall ticket sales are less than 40,000 so far. Worrying times for the organisers poor ticket sales this year will affect next years line up

The source of the unsubstantiated 40,000 rumour, interpret it as you wish

Perhaps the op would care to expand ?

I do think it is the line up that has people off as compared to other festivals not including Glastonbury it is a good line up, I probably get negative comments after I said that, but I think it is the price as other smallish festivals are cheaper and encouraging people to go there to have a good time and get drunk with their mates. As the last few times I have been to V I have met loads of people who not really a big music fan only see about four acts all weekend they just want to have a laugh with they mates get drunk and be seen.

If it hasn't improved much in a month or so it may affect us all a bit sooner than next year like he says. Can they even put on both under a certain number of tickets?

Yeah it'd be good to get an update!

Cause it's w*nk.

Lineups have been worse at v than this year, so that's a rubbish argument. It also a bad argument as reading/Leeds hasn't sold out in years, previously it used to be in hours.

It's also a bad argument as only Glastonbury has sold out this summer in the UK, that is built on the festival experience more than lineups.

So to say its w*nk when you've never been is irrelevant.

Well for a start, my post was massively facetious.

I don't understand what you're saying about Leeds though. The years it hasn't sold put have had poor lineups (especially this year), so I don't really get how that disproves what I said.

Yeah it'd be good to get an update!

remember his initial figure was before day splits were announced and I would imagine that a lot of people would be waiting to see what day they'd prefer before buying tickets! Edited by 2f4e

Can't ever recall V being advertised on TV before and that's in about 20 years of the festival so think they must be really struggling for sales.

For me there are probably 3-4 reasons why I haven't got tickets.

1. Line up is ok but not unique to the festival and some acts - like the Killers have played 2-3 times over the last 5-6 years

2. The none music side of V really hadn't changed in the last ten years. Aside from the comedy tent and the fair ground there isn't much else to see or do, even the food areas are a bit dull with little change each year

3. The price is high for just two days of music, especially as bands just play 12pm to 11 and early acts only do 20 minute sessions. You don't actually get much music for your money

4. Even in the Weston area there are many more cheaper festivals now. Nearby Shrewsbury does a three day festival for £29 and in recent years has had Charletons; maximo park and 1975 headline. Not the variety of V but a good value "introduction" to festivals

Great place to have music festivals, just a shame they have rubbish lineups or back end of the summer.

Shrewsbury have one of the biggest folk festivals in the UK and sells out pretty quick. They also have strawberry fields, osfest but that has become a pop fest basically.

There is room for a 40k festival in the area on the same lines of latitude for example, or a festival like connect festival that was in Scotland. We have some beautiful scenery around shropshire which would've a good selling point as well.

I can't see it though, the new ones like osfest and in telford are aiming more at the pop target audience.

I can only talk from what I've been told round here, the main reason people are put of is pricing at fests.

And right next to Chelmsford, basically in Chelmsford itself, is the festival Brownstock, this year headlined by Dizzee Rascal and Razorlight. Also has De la Soul, Netsky, The Feeling, Goldie Looking Chain amongst others. Loads of people this year are choosing this option instead of V due to tickets being 72 pounds instead of 200

When the difference is 130 pounds and the main reason for going is to have a pissup in a field and camp with some mates (V kind of crowd) lots of people pay to go and see bands such as the feeling

Totally agree, festivals like Kendall Calling are getting more and more popular. Take reading festival that's had some shocking lineups with Travis, darkness and razorlight headlining but sold out in hours..

Now it takes all summer to sell out if it all.

I also think it's also got to the point where V Festival organisers thought they could sell it out regardless of the line-up. This has probably been on the brink of happening for the past 3/4 years, but long term goers have been giving it "one last shot". Obviously that one last shot has come and gone. Rather than catering to one particular audience (as it used too with the heavy influence of indie/rock bands) it's now trying to accomodate everyone, and as a consequence they've competely spread themselves too thin.

You are right Peter well said, they should stick with a genre and have a few other bits of genres of music thrown in and not just a pop festival for the teenagers, also they are advertising trying to be cool and down with the kids with slogans, facebook comments and even colours! Having said all that they are loads of artists playing that I really want to see this year I am 33 and looked at other festivals

They are sticking to a genre and then throwing little bits of other genre's in, as seen with Manics and Embrace. If they are just targeting teenagers but still manage to entice you they must be doing something right

In my opinion its Vs best lineup since 2010, they haven't done too badly this year. Most bigger festivals will come to struggle throughout the next few years, its just as V has possibly one of the youngest audiences, it is one of the first to be affected, because they are the group with the least money to spend.

main reason it hasnt sold out is due to value for money. all festivals have taken a hit over past couple of years, V have yet to introduce a deposit scheme like others and are still only offering 2 full days, u can pay practically the same and go to T in the Park for 3 full days although people may need to travel its more value for money. ive been to last few V's and many T's. only going to T this year though. until V make it 3 days or cheaper i wont be back
