Invest in a double pump if you can stretch to it Kat, much faster, if you can get over the hurdle of feeling like a cow. The noise they make is impressive ;) can dig out some recommendations if any use :)

I got likened to a cow by my GP once, he said that regular milking increases milk yield. Just like with cows.

If you could that would be great :)

The pump will probably be the only thing we buy new (big thing anyway) and due to massive savings I've made so far (silver cross elegant sleepover travel system plus travel cot plus carry rucksack plus baby monitor plus sheets and blankets plus mamas and papas stroller all for £200) I should hopefully have a fair bit to play around with. Having said that I have zero knowledge of the cost of pumps...hit me Bunique...

He was right Feral - pure supply and demand, especially in the first 6 weeks

My midwife was going to arrange for me to donate milk at one stage, I was lucky and produced loads (this is probably too much information, but bear in mind I was only 20 - think double loaded water cannons and chasing people around to have 'water' fights, and you get the idea of what passed for entertainment)

Lol, my friend was quite similar at 19 Feral, but ironically she struggled to breast feed.

I have properly been feeling it move the last couple of days (before then I had bubbles/flutters). It's weird innit? Like being on a roller coaster only with your feet firmly on the ground and no idea of which direction the tracks are going in.

I had a quick look at pumps on eBay earlier, am I looking at roughly £100 for a decent double one?

My wife is 32 and produces loads so not sure age is a major factor :)

The age reference was more in terms of what I decided was a good use of my supply, not the supply itself. (chasing people (hubby) with double loaded cannons...??)

20 year olds like rough and tumble, pillow fights etc., and will use any readily available weapon...

Hormones, breast tissue and a load of others.

Yep, I would have thought £100+ - don't buy second hand as most pumps are not "closed loop" meaning milk can run back into the motor - means they're not sterile, no matter how much you steam all the parts :) will have a look for you now

http://www.mumsnet.com/reviews/baby-feeding/breastpumps

It's worth starting there^ Medela and Ameda are well recommended but Ameda is a closed loop so could safely be bought second hand if you spot a good deal. You can also hire from NCT and www.expressyourselfmums.co.uk if you wanted to try a couple of different ones out - they're usually hospital grade so especially good for early days and getting supply established.

If you are thinking of exclusively pumping, have a nose around some of the more American baby sites/forums as it is much, much more common there and you'll pick up some good tips. Also save kellymom.com to your favourites as it's by far and away the best site for breastfeeding advice online.

Cheers for the info, I will be having a better look later in the year.

I can feel it move already which is quite a nice feeling, until it makes me feel sick, so then I wish it would stop, which it does, so then I worry that something is wrong and I want it to start again, which it does which is nice, until it makes me feel sick...

How if your fella finding the book ?

He found it insulting at first (a bit like all the others) but says he's enjoying it now. I guess that was the intention of the author? I read a few pages out of interest and I want to read it after him, so thank you for the recommendation :)

It starts off with all the general cliches - "I don't have time for a baby - when will I fit it in around going to the pub?", "I like kids, until they start whinging, then I like to give them back". He doesn't really think like that so it bugged him a bit. It certainly was a bargain at that price though.

I'm very happy. After an enjoyable Bearded Theory together we have decided to make the most of my maternity leave and get ourselves (plus 10 month old baby) to GLASTONBURY next year! Eeek!

(On the condition that we buy a trailer tent he says)

Bump certainly reacts to drums, bass and chocolate. Awwww.

Bump just starting to show now. Exciting times!!

Seems like lots of useful info from people on here. I'll have to have a trawl through and read it all sometime.
