So, apart from the 97-98 back to back mudbath, which was perhaps anomalous, it looks like you can expect it to be really bad once every 10 years or so?

I don't want to scare anyone, but I seem to remember Michael Eavis saying in 98 it was on average every 7 years. How long ago was 2007 again? *gulp*

If you're looking for patterns, then it's probably worth looking when the gulf stream was last pushed as far south as it was this winter which led to all the flooding and seeing what the proceeding summer was like.

My old nan used to say 'dry winter, wet summer'. Fingers crossed the opposite is true.

I'd be interested in seeing if there is a pattern with the stream, if anybody can find that out? I don't understand ANY of the weather jargon :(

Ach you can find whatever patterns you like - 05 wet then 07 two years late, 12 wet... Etc it's all arbitrary

I think we've just learnt to get realistic. We've seen it look great then take a nose dive just as we've seen plain sailing from a month in advance.

This year isn't plain sailing - it'll stay pretty tense until at least a fortnight before at this rate

2008 definatly had rain, remember being at a bar in the park stage field and having to leg it back to our campsite in Kidney Mead when it started tipping it down around 12/1am.

Me and one of my mates had to go back to the car to get wellies and boots as we had stupidly left ours behind when coming in on the wednesday, and I'm pretty sure all of Friday was wellie/boot weather underfoot!

Pattern for last few summers seems to have been a few nice days very early on, before going into this weird monsoon-season style weather, with sunny days alternating with huge showers/floods, after which it settles down into either 'quite nice' or 'mostly dreary'. We seem to be getting the silly weather out of the way now, so one would think by the end of June it'll have settled down. Doesn't mean it won't settle down into fairly dreary, miserable weather, but I'm at least confident we're not going to get floods or constant downpours.

Sorry to ask guys but still don't know what this means. Can someone tell me.

what what means? for the record, we may indeed be getting the big soak out of the way, in the next 2-3 weeks, anyway. the met office has been forcasting an improving situation nationwide later in June, but is now hedging its bets a bit by saying the improvement is more likley in the north. however, there is a month to go and lots can and will happen in that time. Met Office latest:

UK Outlook for Wednesday 11 Jun 2014 to Wednesday 25 Jun 2014:

Changeable weather looks more likely than not to persist into mid-June. As such, conditions would then be mixed with showers or longer spells of rain, particularly for western areas, interspersed by some drier, brighter periods for most parts of the UK. Later in the month, there are signs beginning to emerge of a change towards more settled conditions, at least for the north of the UK. Temperatures are likely to be near or just below average during unsettled weather and near average or rather warm during brighter, more settled spells.
