I'm going for boots and waterproof trousers (super sexy camouflage ones!). Only ever used wellies in 2011 and tbh boots would have done except for reaching the loos at the back of the West Holts field - that was a wellies only affair.

In general on this weather thing I reckon we will see some showers - as we do almost every year - but we could get lucky. They may all miss us! I've seen it raining on the Tor from the site before while we bask in glorious sunshine! (Iirc it then hit us but that's not the point!)

Just thought I would add this - where I live, Hull, it was forecast for 5 hours of rain today from noon, at around 11 I thought no chance as it was bright sunshine, absolutely glorious. 12 o'clock the heavens opened up for about an hour to an hour and a half and then nothing, back to lovely warm, weather.

Some of the online forecasts say it should still be raining now, it bloody well isnt.

To add to that, showers could indeed miss if you want the optimistic view. The cricketers went off because of rain today at Headingley - at the same time there was no rain outside my office - about a mile and a half away. We're gonna need some luck here but together we can crack it

Any scientists know whether the amount of water done away with by absorption down the way will compensate for a reduction in moisture removed by evaporation...?

It's all to do with the rate of rainfall. If it's heavy, then it's likely to run off and collect in huge puddles. If not heavy, then the dryness and huge cracks in the ground will most likely swallow it all up. Mud can be caused by either rainfall on saturated ground (not the case here), or where water has nowhere to go due to a hard crust and gets churned up by a footfall. The hope is that the initial rain will be light enough to soften up the ground to make the second option less likely.

Note that evaporation will still take place when it's raining and when it's cold, although obviously not at quite the same rate

I don't get the BBC forecast at all, e.g. Saturday it has heavy shower from 10am to 10pm. I want them to define a shower! Do they mean intermittent between those hours? Who knows, no amount of me reading this thready is going to change anything other than my mood (which is already bad as I should have been on site now, but broken collar bone means I will only be headong down on Fri-Sun now)

That is very true. I was at Pukkelpop a couple of years back when the big storm hit and destroyed the camping and the festival site. Once it had passed and everything had settled down a bit we went for a wander and no more than 10 minutes walk from the site you could barely tell it'd rained, let alone there had been a huge storm.

I suppose you just have to prepare for the worst and then hope for the best. It wouldn't be Glastonbury without the weather thread, though every year I feel like I should avoid it like the plagues, I am inexplicably drawn back to it.

Ive never taken wellies to a festival, including Leeds in 08 and 2011.

If the forecast is still showing rain I might chuck in some work boots but I generally just use my walking shoes

Leeds 08 without wellies was brave! People were losing shoes left right and centre.

It means the is a possibility of a shower between those times

So I guess this means we are playing with percentages. So 0% tomorrow (a god-send for set up and inducing the festy spirit). Thursday seems to be looking dry with potential shower at 8am and 7pm, Friday has a similar story at 9am and 2pm. Doesn't go further yet and yes the times are probably bull but they are all 50% or less and 3mm or less.

All the NFRNFC you like but those stats (all from Accuweather) look ok to me.

Besides, Zeus' fury lashed on Bono in 2011. Any douchbags on that scale this year? :P (Lars?)

Win Butler gets his fair share of bad press. But nothing on a Bono scale. I fear the weather gods are set to punish him on Friday nonetheless...though my hopes are a little higher since everyone's started saying showers rather than constant rain :).

Is it me, but all the forecasts look ok. Showers? pffft! After the 07 apocalypse, anything is an improvement. The 05 thunderstorm was really fun actually (apart from the poor dabs whose tents got flooded of course!).

The was a scary moment last night/this morning when the showers sort of turned into constant heavy rain but its reverted back to showers.A couple of sites were forecasting like 40mm rainfall at one point but its since gone back 5 - 15mm realms.
