Imagine a world where both threads lived in harmony with each other.

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

I'm glad you said this cos I've no idea what its about either

I am not a regular here but I think German is when the forecasts are good and the other, France??, is when it is bad.

No idea why German is deemed good myself.

Either way, if German is good then Donar (a German Weather god) must be something we can all agree is good????

Basically it is people - actual grown adults, not children - who spend their days on this board posting 'NFR NFC' endlessly under the delusion that the result of said posts will mean the sun shines at the festival.

I like you user name, dude. Are you a Catch 22 fan?

Can someone explain the German thing to me? I've never got it...

In 2010, somebody - can't remember who exactly - who didn't have a great grasp of meteorology (like a lot of us), asked if the more technical posters could indicate improving forecasts with a picture of a German and deteriorating forecasts with a French man - GOD knows why, but it caught on. It all got a bit out of hand and so it was rightly decreed that people should be careful about giving offence when they linked to images.

But I think it was just a totally random idea - maybe to do with the state of the German and French football teams at that year's world cup? But I'm not sure.:)

Laura Young, from the Met Office, said: "Looking aheadicon1.png at this stage we can say that it is looking more settled than initially thought.

"Although there may be showers across the country it looks like the South West will be the driest.

"The South West will be getting the best of any sunshine and will be pleasantly warm.

"We are relatively confident it is looking positive."

Sticky stick stick!

And they ended up as being pictures of German Beer keller serving girls.

To add to this, I think it was something to do with an Azores Finger being located over Germany & giving them good weather, and making the weather in France pretty dire... There was some sort of scientific weather connection behind it! There was the risk of this finger moving & causing a change to the weather pattern.

DISCLAIMER - I am the most unscientific person on this thread, although I like to show willing, so if I have got the above entirely wrong, I did not mean to offend.

Just had chance to look properly at today's 06Hz GFS it does look good for dry weather but IMO the operational (currently showing virtually zero rain) is again an outlier, that doesn't mean to say it's not looking good though, the mean is going for in the region of 5mm (cumulative over the Wed-Sun) with the upper cumulative limit (ie worst possible case scenario for the whole 5days) being around 35mm

I'd forgotten about the Azores finger!

The posting of Germans got out of hand in 2010 and that was stopped too - there's a limit to everything - don't feel you're being victimised.

It's the lack of variety in the silly that drives people nuts I think. Not every post needs quoting with "Hah forecasters know nothing NFRNFC" after it - we'd put it in our signatures if we wanted that. A variety of silly and I doubt anyone would have ever raised an eyebrow

I like the Fast Show purely because of the lack of variety in the silly. Comic genius. Edited by Woffy
