I didn't expect jake bugg to feature after his two slots last year. His appearance at the acoustic tent moved me musically, but he came over as nervous and almost cold towards the crowd between songs. I don't think I will be returning

I have to admit I'm surprised that he is headlining the Other stage. Was hoping he would be a little lower down the bill, as was hoping to catch his set. I will be elsewhere on the Saturday night though, as I have already seen him live

But aren't we confusing quality with orginality here. Quality music doesn't necessarily have to be original does it, it just needs to sound good!

Both the artists mentioned are good, just not necessarily original. This doesn't make them bad. They are both very talented musicians. And they provide the masses with a genre of music they wouldn't normally have been exposed to. And that's not a bad thing on my opinion. Hopefully the masses might seek out other quality acts in the same genre, some may be new, some may be from the 80s. I can't see that is a bad thing. Good music is good music

Paolo nutini and jake bugg (in my opinion) seem like they should be in eachothers place.

Paolo is a sub/huge act in his right. He's going to pull one of the biggest crowds of the weekend regardless. Surely he'd be one of the better choices for a (modern mainstream act) against Metallica?

Jake bugg must have the best agent in the world judging by the slots he's getting this year!

Maybe paolo is techniqually the other headliner for Friday but skrillex is playing after him? So there's no clash between arcade fire and him?

All speculation, but this stuck out as one of the weirdest placings for me! It would also make so much more sense!

I've no idea why they each have those placings, but....

I know that Paolo's booking agent is very very chummy with the Eavii (and the other 'top' bookers), and so I'd presume that he'd have no difficulty in putting Paolo into any suitable slot (within reason).

And so I'd guess that Paolo is quite happy to have the slot that he has.

If you take a look at all the stages, it seems like there are a lot of bands/artists in the wrong place/slot.

Is this just some clever way of Glastonbury trying to spread the crowd out evenly? Trying to avoid having pinch-points and overly large crowds all trying to get from one place to another at the same time?

Surely it doesn't matter where or when someone plays? As long as they play. After all it is Glastonbury the best gig of the year? ;-)>

Paolo vs Elbow seems like a weird one for me as Paolo will surely draw the much bigger crowd. usually i'd think 'well Elbow are on before the Pyramid headliner so people will watch them just to get a good spot', but it's Arcade Fire who probably won't draw the biggest crowd anyway

i'll be very surprised if Paolo isn't given a 'headliner' sized timeslot a-la Smashing Pumpkins last year. i like that it seems to be becoming a trend to have the dance acts close stages with the 'real headliners' on before them

yeah i reckon you'll be able to get a decent slot for Arcade Fire no problem. no way am i standing through Elbow. as Scruffy said, turn up between acts and you should be fine (hell, i reckon you'd be able to get near the front for Arcade Fire even after they've begun)

I probably would have given Jake Bugg a go, if he was anywhere other than a Headline on the Other stage. I have no intention of seeing Metallica, but that really doesn't appeal to me as an alternative.

Mogwai will prob be where I venture to. It's a pretty strange line up this year.

Or maybe he knew there was a good chance he'd be up against Prince and either wanted to see him or didn't want to be up against such a big draw. If this were last year we'd be pointing out that everyone was going to be at the Stones so headlining Other on the Saturday would be a tough spot and maybe not as glamorous as it sounded.

Then remember that the Saturday headliner has been in flux for months and was only confirmed as Metallica recently. And if he really is chummy with the Eavis' that's the sort of request he could get away with making.

The fact that Metallica were originally down as Other Stage headliner makes it seem as if either Jake Bugg or Paolo Nutini could have been put into that slot. Here are some possibilities why Jake Bugg might have been chosen:

1. With Metallica there is a much larger risk of large numbers of people leaving during the set than probably in any Glastonbury headline performance before, purely due to the genre of the music.

Jake Bugg provides people with a very different alternative (more so than the Pixies), but isn't such a big draw that people will be really tempted to leave Metallica.

2. Isn't Paolo Nutini known for getting drunk and being rubbish live? (I'm sure I've heard this) Maybe this was too big a risk for a headline slot?

3. Skrillex's set might be shorter than Paolo Nutini's so that Paolo overlaps with Arcade Fire and is the actual headliner (like Smashing Pumpkins last year), but Skrillex needs the darkness to work. This makes Jake Bugg and Paolo Nutini essentially have the same slot (and perhaps Jake Bugg will be on for a shorter set than Pixies too).

4. Paolo Nutini can't do Saturday and/or Jake Bugg can't do Friday.

5. The stage bookers like Jake Bugg's music more than Paolo Nutini's.

6. Jake Bugg's agent was more demanding than Paolo Nutini's.

7. Paolo Nutini really wants to see Metallica and/or Jake Bugg really wants to see Arcade Fire.

Any other reasons anyone can think of?

Jake Bugg is very popular and will get a pretty big crowd, particularly with younger people. Reading have also given him a really big slot. These people know what they're doing, even more so than we do. Maybe we should just leave it at that and move on.
