Accommodation at Glastonbury Festival

Hi all

I hope you can help. I'm looking to hire a tent, one of those canvas bell tents hopefully or a tipi, within the main festival site.

We've never camped before and emigrating later this year so don't want to buy all the gear for just one trip. We're also arriving by coach from London with a 3 year old so want to make it as easy as possible.

Does anyone know of any service where you can hire one of these already put up within the family field or other area in the festival? This will probably be our one & only glastonbury experience and our only family holiday this year so don't mind spending a bit of money. I've looked at the pop up motel but we'd really rather be in the main festival site.

Any help will be gratefully received :)

A very excited Festie Girl :)

Not a lot of choice within the festival site, especially at this late stage, but check out Worthy View, tangerine fields and might be worth ringing see tickets as they may have some tipis, there was also another pre-erected site in Pennards but cant recall the name of it.

There's a company (cosy campers) I think that allow you to order tents etc beforehand and collect them on site. Maybe an option to save you lugging stuff from bus. But you'd have to carry it back or dispose of it properly on site

Some advice if I may;

  • Two things that are worth spending money on, a decent tent and 3/4 season sleeping bags - for the tent go for one of the bigger, reputable names - if you buy quality here you will be warm and comfortable and you should be able to make 50%+ back if you sell them after you return (make sure you do it in the summer while demand is higher)

  • Take a trolley - as you are travelling by coach i would recommend a fishing trolley, they are built to handle the terrain and can fold up for storage on the coach. The trick with these is to not overload them, they are not built to take 8 crates, a 20kg tent and all your bags - however if you load it sensibly it will happily take a heavy tent + a reasonable amount of booze

  • As you are having a blowout then i would recommend not taking any food beyond snacks for the little 'un, there is a wide selection of food available on site and the prices are reasonable considering (a meal for the 3 of you should come to around ยฃ25) - same goes for booze, there are plenty of bars on site - expect to pay london prices

  • As dondo points out, some stuff can be brought on site - the CosyCamper website is not currently available but when its up you should be able to see whats available and reserve anything you need - they do charge a premium but it may be worth it to save taking stuff in with you

  • When looking at purchasing camping gear keep an eye on the weight of each item - even an extra kg can be a killer on the walk in

  • Buy cheap camping rucksacks for you and your partner - holdalls and suitcases are a nightmare to carry, the wheels on a wheelie suitcase will not help you traverse a farm

I reckon that all of this can be done for significantly less than the cost of the pre-pitched accomodation. I hope you and your family have an amazing time on your first (and possibly only) trip to Glastonbury!
