rischbrit
Our local police force around Christmas time give out bell clip things to put on handbag zips to deter pick pockets. Bakcly of the zip is undone the bells tinkle. May try and get some to put on the inside of our tent on the zips when we asleep Edited May 28, 2014 by rischbrit
scaryclaireyfairy
in addition to the messy tent rule - if you have crate/s of cans, burst the cardboard crates up and scatter the cans.
Bonedaddy
I only camped in the 80's and 90's and agree that you hear of tent theft a lot less now than back then. When i did camp i used to have cash and when arrived probably 400 fags. i used to dig a tiny trench under the tent, accessible from the back of the porch and lay the packs of fags out there. Tent as messy as possible and cash used to go into dirty laundry, such as a few manly socks and the y of a pair of y pants! And i used to keep £10, some change and a pack of fags in a clear polybag just at the front of the tent. The one time i did have my tent invaded it was just my 'offering' that was taken, which i just write off as an insurance premium!

rischbrit
also if you decide to leave your camera in the tent instead of the lock ups take out your memory card and store it somewhere else...... if you are unlucky to have your camera stolen it will just be your camera and not the memory card full of pictures. Yes you will be pissed off that some scally has stolen your camera but at least you still have some pictures not only just of glasto but other important events/moments (small consolation I know but at least it'll soften the blow... or just use the lock ups to avoid this!) Bonedaddy
Yeah, I've thought about having a 'sacrificial' offering to the would be tent thief. Only mine was going to consist of a wallet filled with photocopied £20 notes along with a much smaller note hidden within them with the words ' Fuck You' written on them. grumpyhack
I appreciate that this thread is really about tent security rather than safety but one piece of advice for newbies is don't use a portable gas burner - one of these inside a tent. One whoosh of gas and the whole thing could go up.

Yoghurt on a Stick
Hmmm, that's more antagonistic than my 'insurance policy' method and whilst i applaud your stance, it's probably likely to encourage a repeat visit with an even bigger 'fuck you' from the sort of scrotes that steal from others. foolelle
anyone any stories regarding thefts from the camper field, or is this something that not very common? Will still be using the lockups as usual but still wouldnt want to the door or camper damaged at all.
PoliceatGlasto
Hi everyone. There are some good safety tips here and other advice here. We'll be at the festival as always and have our dedicated microsite /topic/185502-tent-safety/www.glastonburypolice.com">www.glastonburypolice.com full of crime prevention advice and information about role at the festival. We'll be adding more new content as we get nearer to Glastonbury and keeping it updated throughout with the latest crime figures, trends and anything else we think you need to know. And we'll have police officers patrolling the festival too - they are friendly so do stop and say hello as you pass them. If you're on Twitter you can also follow us @PoliceatGlasto. You're unlikely to become a victim of crime at Glastonbury and as long as you are careful you'll be able to concentrate on having a good time. Basically, bring with you only what you need and consider leaving your gadgets at home. Make sure any valuables are registered on the free Immobilise.com property database as this will help us return items to you if they are lost or stolen. And download a tracking app onto your phone - most are free and easy to install. When you get here, consider checking your valuables into the free property lock-ups. You can check items in or out at any time and it's really worth doing. Anything you keep should be kept on you - preferably in a front pocket or a zipped up bag. I hope this helps - if you need any more advice you can get in touch through /topic/185502-tent-safety/www.glastonburypolice.com">www.glastonburypolice.com or ask us a question @PoliceatGlasto. Enjoy Glastonbury! Edited May 30, 2014 by PoliceatGlasto

foolelle
There were several last year as crowds of ticket less people were gathering in East Campervan fields. Naively we thought the crowd opposite us were the kids of the motor home owners as they had mentioned they would be arriving later. As the crowd grew to 100+ we realised something was wrong. Security also spotted them luckily so we didn't need to go in search of help! Police and security were suddenly coming from all directions! it turned out they were waiting to be smuggled into the festival by paying traders £100 to do so. A few round us had their caravans broken into and their awnings used as toilets Security visited us and advised we took all flags down as they were using these as markers to meet up. They also kept a look out on random tents appearing and checked if they were wrist banded, many weren't and were driven off site. Get to know your neighbours and watch out for wristbands on those around you as well as leave the flag at home is my advise!
StoneCircle
which field were you in StoneCircle? We were in E17 and didnt notice anything nor hear of any break ins. I have to say I aint too happy with having the camper fields outside the fence and I dont remember being asked to show my wristband when entering the CV site. I dont really understand why the campers are the only part of the festival along with Worthy View which by all accounts have better security than the CV site, I wonder why this is!
