Anyone else with me?

I think one of the biggest problems is that music is such a subjective area, and as people have said, it is something that everyone on here is very passionate about. Everyone interprets music differently, and you get some people on this forum that seem to understand that, and will respect someone else's opinion even if they don't like that particular band.

Then you get some people that think that their taste in music is perfect and that their opinion is the law, and enjoy just openly contradicting and condescending others so that they can show that their taste in music is better. Those are the type of people that really put me off this forum some times. I think that it is definitely an age thing, the glastonbury forum isn't too bad but the Reading and Leeds forum is absolutely full of people like that and it is no coincidence.

Those dark evenings when theres only the 7000 post plus people lurking in the shadows. Just waiting for a suggestion that [insert band name here] might be worth watching at Glastonbury. Its not a pretty sight.

But youre a stronger man and a better man for having survived it :good:

People need to not take the internet so seriously.

The only really sincere posts I make here, the ones without any irony, are the nice ones. When I say I love a band, or something I like about Glastonbury, or the forum.

I have to be very careful how I say this, because I risk sounding elitist or like I'm trying to belittle new users, I'm not. But you'll notice that the people who have been here a while and regularly post are nearly never the ones getting offended. To enjoy coming here, you have to look at it with a sense of humour, to recognise it's only the internet. People get up in arms on here that somebody is being condescending to them for one reason or another, they weren't, it was a joke.

Some people take it in good humour when somebody sticks the boot in because they like Jake Bugg, some people take it as an attack. We're all here because we want to be, this recreation for us, 99% of hostility here is in the mind of the beholder.

I really like it here, it normally puts me in a better mood and only just been around for over a month. But I got my Glasto ticket in the resale and that was it, I was hooked lined and sinkered.

Its my first Glastonbury so it has been like a rollercoaster of excitement for me reading the threads on here, getting advice from others who have been about what to expect, what to pack and even people to camp with and check out bands with cos I'm going solo. I actually don't feel like I'm going solo now, I'll be travelling to Worthy Farm by myself then meeting up with the friends I've met here. Just in the last month.

Thats such an awesome thing to happen.

However, it has been a little crackly in mood here for the past couple of days and I personally have found it bizarre that I said I didn't like a particular band and instead of shrugging it off like I would (if someone said the Foo Fighters are shit, I'd say fair enough, not to everyones taste) its been a bit like a dog with a bone.

FFS, Glastonbury is huge - I know that and I've not even been (meet me on Thursday at the Avalon Cafe to see the wonderment in my face if you want ;) )

so if you don't like something there is sooo much else to see. So if someone doesn't share your love of a certain band or genre, so what! Move on, there are so many others to share that love with.

Anyway, I'm sure the mood swing has been down to the lunar cycle and we'll all be having a love in again in no time.

Peace and love! :D

Sometimes it takes so long to explain what you actually think in a reasonable manner - that definitely can't be interpreted negatively - that you just think "oh sod it ill tell them to stuff it" then you get dragged into an argument and waste a load of everyone's time. Happened to me the other day when I thought someone was taking the piss and on reflection I'm not sure they were.

Anyway. This forum is good and mostly full of people who are very helpful and sharing.

I lurked here for a long time.

I finally decided to post. Mainly because this year is my new-ish wife's first GF. I was and am almost jealous; i've been to plenty. But it was exciting for us both and this was a place to express that excitement twofold.

That was my motivation for 'joining' eFests 'proper'.

Since i've 'joined properly' i've loved these forum threads.

I've only ever previously been a member of one other forum - about a very singular kind of written literature i like - but it shut down...and i was quite gutted, relatively speaking. And this was in the days of the early 'net. I'm nearly 40. But at the time it felt like a weird, new, anonymous home for likeminded people and i loved it.

I didn't need to be my usual unconfident, self-conscious self. I could finally have my say. If i didn't like someone else's reaction to my comments i could ignore it. Scrrrrrrroll downnnnn.

So i lurked here...mainly for info.

I adore music more than any other artform and love the subjectivity and self-confidence it affords me...i can't be 'wrong'!!!!!

Music led me to 'do' GF...and in total go to more GFs alone, and then with my kids, than with mates. An eFests has proved vital for info.

Then I joined for real this year.

And i have made some UTTERLY FANTASTIC 'friends'...but people i hope and partly know when i meet them this year will become friends for real...even if we only keep in touch afterwards in between the rare meet via phone / text / twitter/ FB / here, for reasons of 'real life', work, family, being a grown up, etc.

I know now that i have this site to thank because those people's basic common decency and likemindedness and downright wicked sense of humour shines through a PC / phone screen.

So i love it here.

My point?

I actually got shat on here by someone, it was crap (in solely 'real world' terms), but they apologised and that was good enough for me. We don't communicate on here anymore, but if we bump into each other by some freak occurrence at GF2014 we'll share a laugh and a beer i'm sure. I'll buy the first round.

I did want to fuck this site off as a result, but some fantastic people on here - the lifeblood people of this site, and MANY whose opinions i don't share...encouraged me to stay posting on here because normal idiots like me and mu idiosyncratic opinions about music or otherwise, they said, 'are the lifeblood of this site'.

Fuck, i thought, you don't know me, but that is a small facet of humanism that i thrive on and gives me hope. In many ways, some very personal to me. That instilled a confidence in me i lacked. And i'm grateful for it.

Now? Well...

I dick about on the wonderful NFR NFC thread with our daft nutty 'evangelist' 'belief' in how we alone with our friendly enthusiasm are gonna make GF2014 a sunshine fest!

[ALL 'COS OF US! Take a moment to consider if we really think this and put that before the fun we have chatting and talking shit! (WE DO think we're gonna make it sunny for you who have tickets, genuinely...or do we?!).]

Ultimately, i'm here to stay.

Enjoy it here.

Be controversial.

State your case

Make your point known.

Be vociferous...angry even.

But step back and wonder if you're 'getting anywhere' making your point.

Impose the odd real-life ideal you hold dear when replying to someone.

Be witty.

Be funny.

Just don't - specifically - go out of your way to make someone feel bad...different from being provocative.

Likewise...try not to take offence.

And whatever you may think of Neil, you wouldn't be here if it weren't for him.

And i don't know the bloke at all.

Finally: thank you to those friends i've made on here: you know who you are. And you're brilliant. Fucking ace, in fact.

NFR NFC NForever.

eFests Forever.

God i'm dull (but thanks to eFests i'm entitled to have my own say, guff or not!)

Woffy x

PS - Fuck any grammatical mistakes i've made. If you think i'm gonna re-read and edit this guff then you don't know me...or do you.

Have a fucking WONDERFUL Glastonbury those of you who are lucky enough to be going.

More love, Woffy x

As Neil said early on this is a vibrant forum because of the different personalities and viewpoints, I find it much the same as real life, there are some I like and some I dont. I tend to ignore the band bashing, it doesnt really matter if someone likes something different to me.

There are some strong debates on here but generally they are done in the right way and it's educated me on a few things not just festival related.

Carry on as you were..
