The fact that you have written this means that Download isn't for you. R1BW? Really? Does anyone other than school kids go to that?

It's free and tickets go to local residents, and my brother loves next to the venue, so we got tickets on the off chance there'd be a decent headliner. Turned out to be Foos and Muse.

On the whole Big Weekend isn't really for me (Download much more so). I want to see Slaves, Snoop Dogg and Muse on the Saturday, and just Foos on the Sunday (probably forgotten someone).

Download always tends to be the same for me; some great acts at the top and then just a load of filler that seems to be there/Sonisphere every single year. There's a lot I haven't listened to, but out of all the stuff I do know not much of it appeals to me (a couple more acts I like lower down would have swayed me - Mastodon, Refused, ASIWYFA, FIDLAR, but yeah it's obviously unrealistic to expect that).

So yeah, Download isn't really for me, but with a day ticket being only £15 more tha. I'd expect to pay for a Muse ticket, and with FNM on before them, would probably have been worth it still.

Wont Muse only get like 30 mins at R1BW? I don't know much about it but thought theres loads of acts and they get really small sets.

And Saturday at Download is great. I actually think its a pretty strong line up throughout now, Friday has been beefed up with Lacuna Coil and one more to come that day.

Sunday is lacking a little something lower down the bill, that old school act that would really give it that extra something.

I think Saturday is by a mile the strongest day, Friday is lacking massively for me and Sunday has Slash. But opinions are different I guess, but then I'm not a Download music fan like a lot of you are. On a side note, I'll never understand why they don't let you camp from Thursday morning on a standard camping ticket, incentive would be so much more.

And how much is early entry at Leeds? Plus I paid 215 for my 5 day ticket in December after all 3 headliners were announced.

£20 bloody notes lol. That works the same with Leeds, you could have got for £205 earlier too. So yeah it's about the same with the early entry fee's for both. 5 days too much at one of those fests though.

So Muse aren't exclusive, they're headlining Bestival as well

AND

Download is enforcing Cashless on us this year, introducing it, not making it an option but the only way and the festival is just over a month away and theres still no details about it. No happy with that, means one more queue to sort out a cashless wristband.

He never actually said they would be exclusive, only that at the time as far as he was aware. There was never a ruling out of anything else, and it's obviously had to stay quiet until now. I think it was never expected as it's a major step down for them.

At least it's fair to say it most likely ticks them off of the IOW Fest radar for next year.

Download never announces its headliners as exclusive anymore, they're probably nervous after the faith no more debacle....

Never announcing as such but Copping does tend to throw out a "no more UK festivals planned" or "exclusive as far as I know" here and there.

Any idea if that will be replacing the beer tokens as well??

Can someone explain the cashless system to me please.

Nobody is 100% sure as they haven't given us any details(despite the fact that the festival is just over a month away)

It is something like-

- no-one will accept cash on site.Not for beer,food, t-shirts, anything

- Everyone will have a wrist band that they will be able to put money on(not sure if it is linked to your bank or you just preload it with a set amount)

- Everytime you buy something, you scan your wristband and the amount you spend will be taken off you balance

- if you spend all on your wristband you can top-up with special machines on site

- At the end of the festival, if you have anything left, you get your remaining balance refunded.

Apologies if any of that is incorrect as there has been nothing official yet

cashless systems are a scam that'll be used by festivals to put prices up and lessen competition.

Plus they;'ll make a fortune from all the cash that's left on the wristbands at the end that people don't bother to re-claim.

It's a way to make you give them extra money, twice over.

Hellfest just announced they're going cashless. Same principle but with a top-up card as opposed to a wristband. Biggest point of note was that they're not issuing refunds for any money left unused, you can use it at the festival next year though!?!?

If I were a cynical sort I'd wager the reason that DL are leaving the announcement so late is that there's some kind of clause in there that'll annoy their customers so they're minimising the time people can be vocal against it before the fest. Damage limitation.

Of couse, they might not be doing anything of the sort & this will be solely for the customers benefit & not just another revenue stream for Live Nation.

And what if you lose the wristband?

I foresee huge queues of pissed off people waiting to top up their money. especially if you can't preload it before the festival. It's like saying that you can only use cash, but you can't get the cash until you get on site. The atm queues are mental at the best of times.

What was wrong with cash and beer tokens anyway? I never had a problem with that and reckoned it worked well.

I went to rock werchter a few years back. You could buy beer tokens as part of your ticket, at a discount rate. Perfect.
