Passing up on Di Maria would be madness.

But I agree huge problems in the middle and the back. May be rectified this week though. Still in for Blind, De Jong and/or Vidal.

Passing up on Di Maria might be madness if you had the rest of the needed squad in place. As things stand it's merely throwing good money after bad.

You need to get on your knees and start praying the rest fall into place before the end of the week, else you'll struggle to match last season's position. As it is LvG is already saying that it's going to take three months to get the team ticking, which I suspect wouldn't have got him the job if he'd said that at interview.

I can't see how the Glazers would have sanctioned such a large spend without a promise of a top 4 place ... so i think we're in for an interesting season again. :D

PS: does anyone think the likes of Di Maria are arriving without a get-out clause for next summer?

Thats the worry yeah. Doubt he'll be happy with two seasons of no CL. But a team with De Gea, RVP, Rooney, Mata, Di Maria and a good defensive midfielder have a good chance.

Assuming they click. None of the other 3 new signings have played yet remember.

Looking forward to seeing Herrera.

Also on the cash, a mad amount spent yeah. But 12 players have left. Most for fuck all, for free or retired.

Serious rebuild needed.

Yes but so did City/Chelsea to become title contenders hence they splashed the cash.

It must be gutting to be a Everton/Spurs fan (even Liverpool to an extent) knowing even if you do get lucky and make it to the top 4, the summer after the team that fail will be able to buy their way back.

All the while the teams outside of the top 4 are spending money just to stand still as any of the top top players they manage to get their hands on/develop are picked off from above.

Sigh its completely shit really and the big boys are even taking the League Cup more seriously. Still I can hope Man City are knocked out by the semi finals this year :P

Theres no guarantee of anyone who falls out of the top 4 getting back in, although to be fair liverpool and spurs have both spent a decent amount of money themsleves aiming for top 4.

Liverpool's problem now is that they really need to beat Spurs next weekend, else they'll already be a fair way off the pace for top 4.

I think psychologically you are right to a degree but lets not forget that Liverpool only got 3 points from these 3 fixtures last year and that was the win in London. A draw would not be the worst result. A loss will be a very early blow.

City ominously strong last night. Liverpool fairly blunt though. Suarez missing big time.

Lets not forget if Suarez was still at the club it would have not changed a thing........................ He is suspended. So let analyse the missing of Suarez until later in the season

I think next weekend's match will be a far better indicator for how Liverpool will do this season.

Massive game for Liverpool and especially their new players. Last night I thought, although Moreno was at fault for the first goal, he looked like he may have something to him. Markovic looked lively when he came on too and it will be interesting to see how Mario does.

Spurs are on a high, so if Liverpool can extinguish those flames it will be an impressive marker to put down.

No there isn't but the last team who did, got back pretty damn sharpish :P

While Man Utd look like they are fucking it up atm, I can see them just about scraping through.

Oh my Jesus....

Over 30 years supporting uniting and I would say that's the most humiliating game I've ever witnessed from United.

Can't wait until mrefests joins the fun tomorrow morning.

I'm of to hide in a corner and play with formations with bottles of beer......

Its looking like a 40 games season for Man Utd this year!! For all the talk of second string, that team is strong enough to beat MK Dons.

LVG needs to wave a magic wand in the next few weeks to get that defence playing together. For all the talk about the price of Di Maria, Rojo is a huge gamble as well. Unlike Di Maria his reputation is pretty much built on 1 world cup campaign.

A bad day for Ireland, wasn't it? What with Celtic losing too. :P

I imaging that wee Davey was sat at home, almost having a coronary with laughter.

Still, Utd can concentrate on the league, as the triple is now out of reach. Just the double this season?

When the fourth goal went in the howls of pained laughter nearly woke the baby.
