At least it gives Sheffield United fans something to moan about.

They ring BBC Radio Sheffield every week saying "How can we not sign good players? What's happened to the Tevez money?" or "God if we'd kept Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton we'd be brilliant now; why did we sell them?".

I'VE GOT A GRUMBLE FOR MASCHERANO

That's not weird at all. I doubt Arteta is Arsenal's highest earner.

Same for Gerrard last season at Liverpool. Terry, Kompany, Casillas, Xavi, Puyol before him, Silva at PSG etc etc.

the difference is tho that Utd is a club where various players have demanded they're the highest paid as a part of the contract negotiations.

So Rooney is probably pissed off now.

Does no one play Football Manager?must be clause in some stars contract that they have to match the club's highest earner.

It's always a fucker when I'm trying to sign someone and they insist on that clause.Had to bump Leigh Griffiths and Tom Cairney up to match Rivaldo when I signed him for my Watford save on FM12 a week ago.Was worth it though,Griffiths is a goal machine getting 30 plus a year in the prem and Cairney weighing in with 20 assists...Rivaldo didn't add much though.

Seriously though he's a very good player and had an especially excellent season even by his high standards, but was poor in the World Cup (as was every Argentina player other than Messi).

You seriously think Mascherano was poor in the world cup? Also the Argentinian defence who hardly conceded? When it comes to discussions about the world cup everyone seems to be classified as poor or great. Fact is most players were average and Di Maria was in this group. However he did score a huge goal for Argentina when they needed a top name to shine.

Fucking hell these arguments have been going round in circles.

Di Maria is an absolute quality player who oozes talent. Man U did need a winger that's better than Young/Nani/Valencia/Januzaj as well. Getting one of the best wingers around is a big plus for them.

I suspect many criticising the signing would be acting very differently if he signed for the club they supported.

Jesus fucking Christ Neil Warnock back in the Premier League. Yet another reason not to watch MOTD.

For all the mocking of this appointment (and he wouldn't be my first choice) I would say his credentials are every bit as good as Mackay who most people seemed to see as a suitable candidate. The way Palace couldn't contractually announce before their sponsor seems a bit odd though.

The thing for me is that £60m could improve Man U far more if it were spent elsewhere. That said, there's not a single better player than Di Maria who'd be prepared to go to Man U.

Yeah played on and off since the first version in erm 1992? Nearly cost me my A-levels. When it came on floppy disk and hard drives were still ridiculously expensive it took about half a day to generate a new season by writing it to disk.

The best version was the one with a bug where you could shortlist players about to retire and their reincarnated selves would be listed there the next season.. Seem to remember picking up Franco Baresi, Ruud Gullit and Mark Hughes as promising 16 and 17 year olds and building a side around them.

Can't say I agree with that. Whilst Mackay's achievements have been over egged in some quarters it's true to say he did achieve a fair amount in his short managerial career to date. Where as Warnock has had some limited success but also a string of failures that Mackay doesn't have. Plus old Colin w*nker has hardly any more experience in the top flight than the inexperienced Mackay and frankly is probably past it now - as his failure to secure a job for a year proves...? He's hardly been in demand since his failures at QPR and Leeds anyway.

I would agree, but if theres money to waste and its not mine, let them waste it. Di Maria is a signing which will persuade other players that they are a team on the up.

For all the criticism of Tan, he offered Mackay a great opportunity at a club with a budget capable of winning the league and he delivered. When tested in the premiership he did worse than Steve Bruce spending more money in the process. Its always a good achievement to gain a promotion whatever the budget. However I don't see Mackay as an better than many other managers who take their teams up, struggle and then get the sack. Most managers in similar situations don't get a premiership job.

To me Mackay benefited due to being good with the media and an idea that he was a a victim against the vilanous Tan. As I have said previously I think Mackay and Tan both did well out of each other.

My most memorable use of cheating was guiding wales to world cup glory using the save/lose/restart technique. I think it took the best part of a day, but go there in the end.

I personally prefer the older games as I think they have overcomplicated it now. Its also been a source of great disaapointment to me when I have discovered the likes of Scott Huckerby, Kevin Watson, Andy Duncan and Cherno Samba acutally weren't great in real life!

6 years into my current save with Watford in FM12 two games left, one in the league where I'm 2nd by a point and in the Europa final...tempted to use that to ensure some form of silverwear but then,it would spoil it after guiding them so far lol.
