mrtourette
For all the criticism of Tan, he offered Mackay a great opportunity at a club with a budget capable of winning the league and he delivered. When tested in the premiership he did worse than Steve Bruce spending more money in the process. Its always a good achievement to gain a promotion whatever the budget. However I don't see Mackay as an better than many other managers who take their teams up, struggle and then get the sack. Most managers in similar situations don't get a premiership job. To me Mackay benefited due to being good with the media and an idea that he was a a victim against the vilanous Tan. As I have said previously I think Mackay and Tan both did well out of each other. You might be right. Mackay certainly gave off an air that he knew what he was doing, was being interfered with but quietly got on with it, while Warnock gave off an air of being a massive stroker who blamed everyone else for his problems. Although Mackay has only really failed with one club (and he wasn't even given the chance to properly fail), while Warnock has made an arse of himself at multiple clubs. eFestivals
Giroud out till the end of the year. Will Wenger spunk some money on a new striker? Or will he struggle on ... again?
zahidf
Wenger has said he won't be 'panic buying' a striker. Which seems bizarre when bony and Remy are available...
Andre91
Arsenal needed a striker before Giroud's injury. If Wenger doesn't go out and get one now then he is making a big, big mistake.
The Nal
the difference is tho that Utd is a club where various players have demanded they're the highest paid as a part of the contract negotiations. So Rooney is probably pissed off now. Exactly. OK lads!

eFestivals
OK lads!Oh c'mon ... Rooney has screwed every last penny out of the club with his contract on the basis that he should be the highest paid, and we all know he's a sulker. The Nal
Has Rooney not threatened to leave over money Nal? No. He threatened to leave over "lack of ambition" around transfers. Oh c'mon ... Rooney has screwed every last penny out of the club with his contract on the basis that he should be the highest paid, and we all know he's a sulker. Hes still is the highest paid. 4-5 Utd players had the "I get paid at least the same as the top guy" contract clauses back in the late 90s early 00s. Same for lots of clubs. Its not as common anymore with so much money up for grabs with sponsorship. I was just laughing at the wild speculation from you both that hes pissed off with the Di Maria deal. Hilarious. Looks like Alonso is off to Bayern. Could BR not have given him a bell? Fantastic player. Edited August 28, 2014 by The Nal
Essex_George
Looks like Alonso is off to Bayern. Could BR not have given him a bell? Fantastic player. Agree, fantastic player but couldn't see LFC paying £8m for a 32 year old.
The Nal
Agree, fantastic player but couldn't see LFC paying £8m for a 32 year old. Hmmm, he doesn't run a whole lot. Never did. Hes a sublime passer. He could still do that for another 3-4 years easily?

Again I agree, LFC should of gone for him if there was any chance of siging him. I meant that because of LFC's transfer policy of trying to sign younger players that they wouldn't spend £8m on Alonso, don't think the owners would go for it. Even more odd that they didn't go back in for him. Considering hes still such an LFC fan. Bayern have made a cracking signing there.

They were supposedly looking at buying Etoo until they wrapped up the Balotelli deal.Eto'o was on a 'free' though, his wage demands were sky high and I think he would of been a last resort signing. I know LFC signed Lambert but his price and wages wouldn't break the bank, the owners of LFC have this transfer policy of not splashing the cash on older players. Whether that is right or wrong who knows. Edited August 28, 2014 by Essex_George

The Nal
Rooney named as England captain, no surprise there. Hopefully the responsibility of being club and country captain will make him a better player. More consistent. Hes a fragile soul so he need TLC and constant reassurance. He can be devastating when that happens.
LondonTom
Rooney named as England captain, no surprise there. Fantastic, one of England's biggest underachivers at finals given the captaincy. (Not that there was many other candidates.). Ah well at least he have to retire after we "fail" again to win Euro 2016 Really still no Mark Noble for England?! I thought he'd get tested now Frank and Gerrard are gone! Suits West Ham as he won't get injured mind
