He said he could not play for another club other than Liverpool or Bronby. He did not want to leave at all. Liverpool turned down bids of 7m from Man Utd and Arsenal and accepted 3m from Bronby apparently.

what I wanna know is whether LVG is in for Vlaar? I'm quite surprised that he hasn't gone for him.

And I hope he does, just on the basis of a "great players from the WC that managers should avoid" piece I read a few months back.

I think the concept of buying players on the basis of an international tournament holds more for players coming from abroad. With vlaar you have 2 premiership v seasons to use to make a judgement.

We're having a phenomenally quiet deadline day, but that's a good thing IMO. We could do with a CB and a striker, but that's been the case for 4 years. Noone leaving (particularly Tiote/Krul) is excellent news.

I think the concept of buying players on the basis of an international tournament holds more for players coming from abroad. With vlaar you have 2 premiership v seasons to use to make a judgement.

I think the point was that after two decidedly dodgy season for Villa his stock suddenly rose due to a reasonable World Cup, even amongst those who should know better.

By who? I have heard 343K. There seems to be all sorts of crap floating about regarding this loan. I have even read he will only cost 5m for the loan and the option to buy will be 20m, which really smacks of rubbish

I think he has performed well in the premiership. There have been mistakes, but at villa he has had to do a lot more work than those at better teams.

Why? They've found an original way to compete with teams with a much higher income - i.e. Utd, Madrid, Barca. Would you really rather it was just Man Utd and Arsenal at the top with everyone else way behind due to limited finances? We had 5years of that and it got boring! All FFP does is keep the big established clubs at the top whilst preventing smaller clubs from achieving any kind of significant and sustainable success.

Because I don't like the way they just hoover up anyone who shows promise to farm them out and then sell them on when they don't live up to the hype.One or two fair enough but to own 20 odd players out on loan is ridiculous.

I have no problem with the likes of Chelsea. city and PSG competing by spending above their means. Its the hovering up of young players that they don't need which I think is to the detriment of the game.
