LondonTom
1-0 at home against Norway via the penalty spot. Another poor showing from a poor England team. Its not going exactly inspire anyone to buy tickets to see England next time is it? I watched about 30 minutes of the first half and that was quite enough of that sort of carry on! Gucci Piggy
I think I watched about 200 minutes of it.
dentalplan
Can blame the team if you want but that's been an archetypal England game since all those players were at school.
eFestivals
15 months ago thetime was insisting that Man U would never considering ditching playing wingers and two strikers.and i've just remembered that some (can't remember exactly who) insisted that Moyes wouldn't be sacked because that's not what Man Utd do.(and I've just remembered there was a bet on that too. I've no memory of it being paid up either, tho it might have been).
eFestivals
Another poor showing from a poor England team.Tho Sterling looked excellent.I'm astounded by just how much he's coming on as a player - tho he's still a long way from how good he might get, as those sitters he missed at Spurs last weekend shows.I'm not sure that I can remember any other English-based player with similar, except perhaps skippy.Which had me thinking during last night's game, might Sterling hit those heights? It's possibly the case that Sterling has a bigger influence on games as a 19 year old than skippy managed.

Just hope they don't ruin him by playing him to much and burn him out, thinking on the lines of Fowler and owen. Rodgers used him perfectly last season. He started the season out of the team - and probably for good reason cos his form had dropped - but when he came back in as a regular in the lead up to xmas he started to kick on some more, and he's kicked on again from there.Oddly, I was actually really pleased that he missed those sitters at Spurs last week after some fantastic work to get himself a scoring position (tho I probably wouldn't have if L'pool had been losing ) cos that would be him at around his lifetime best, and with no further progression to come from him. I'm really enjoying watching him get better. And I still laugh every time he bumps someone twice his size off the ball.

At the weekend, with those runs he was going on. The commentators were right in saying that there are only a handful of players in Europe who can do that as well ad he can. It's nice to see a young English player who isn't afraid to dribble the ball and take on multiple opponents.

pink_triangle
International friendlies at this stage of the season are pointless. In England case its just about paying for a stadium. The players priorities are purely club football now. eFestivals
Why did you care about the score or the result either way?i'm no fan of Spurs at the current time (my likings have always been somewhat fluid; there's been times in the past they've been a favourite), and get pleasure seeing them fall short in much the same way as I did last year with Man Utd. They are a much more likeable team. The sheer hilarity of Man Utd spending 150+ millions and not getting top 4... Hell, it would be funnier if they got to 4, and then Chelsea won the Champions league to keep them out another year!

eFestivals
Yeah ok !Yes, there's teams i like more and there's teams I like less, and there's teams i don't much care about either way. Which teams i'm applying any of those to can change for a number of reasons. You've shown you feel exactly the same (tho not necessarily with the same teams) with numerous posts of your own over many years.I ain't daft. eFestivals
But you always like Liverpool more?Given that I supported Liverpool as a kid I have a soft spot more-so than I do other clubs, but it still changes dependent on situation just as my view of Spurs and other clubs changes. The consequence of that is not me always liking Liverpool more than every other club at all times, no. Gucci Piggy
For a while I was sceptical of Sterling, and thought lots of people were overrating him, but it seems like it isn't just a bout of good form, he really is brilliant. Unlike Januzaj who's had, what, one good half in his career and is the best teenager in the world? Balon D'or winner 2020, for sure. (Slight exaggeration for sure, but point still stands) Edited September 4, 2014 by Will-2609

Gucci Piggy
Haha always gets back to United one way or another. Biggest team in the country, biggest talking point of a football forum based in the UK. I don't see why people try to deny the obsession everybody has with United. It's just natural. kaosmark2
Biggest team in the country, biggest talking point of a football forum based in the UK. I don't see why people try to deny the obsession everybody has with United. It's just natural. Arguably the biggest team in the world. The 2 Spanish ones compete, but based on worldwide fanbase and recognition amongst non-football fans it's hard to say any other team is close. I don't think Januzaj playing for Man U had much of an impact on the hype though. LOTS of young players get ridiculously overhyped on the basis of a few good performances. Townsend, Milner, Bentley, Barkley, Albrighton, Berahino, Young. Januzaj's got slightly more hyped than many other non-English young players, but then, Obertan had massive hype, Arsenal have had lots of heavily hyped youngsters who haven't made it. Hell as a Newcastle fan we constantly get told some academy product is going to be the next Shearer and they always fail to be so. Young players and English players both get overhyped here. Anyone that falls into both categories is almost bound to not meet it. I don't think Sterling has matched the hype yet and I think he's been excellent. I'm sure at some point in the next 3 years he'll have a bad patch and everyone will start moaning about him like they have Wilshere this last 9 months. kwassa1
Say what you like about januzaj but he comes off as a naturally gifted player, his technique is totally natural. Not sure that could be said about the rest of the players that get hyped up. He could still turn out to be completely average, but for some reason I just doubt that'll be the case. Edit: point about Wilshere; he smokes. Regardless of what people say that affects performance. I'd say that hasn't helped Rooney progress as he was expected to. Wilshere was majorly over rated anyway. After that barca game- "he'd get in their team". Pundits need to get over themselves. pink_triangle
I think its a difficult time for Januzaj to come in with Man utd having a difficul time. In an ideal world you want to integrate them when the team are doing well and hope they absorb the confidence from the other players. Sterlings big test will be if liverpool advance to the latter stages of the champions league. If he does well, maybe Real Madrdi will come knocking!
