Do you not remember the uproar at the time that all the painted faces in the fake crowd were white and so because of the backlash someone had to get out a tub of paint or two and paint in a more ethnically diverse looking crowd?

i can vaguely remember something about the colour of the faces - tho my recollection of that is that there weren't none at all, instead a lot fewer than people said there should be to match the local demographics (tho the local demographics didn't necessarily reflect the footie going crowd of the time).

Are you sure there were no non-white faces originally?

It was then pointed out that some children were depicted next to adults who did not appear to be their parents. This prompted criticism from children’s charities (who thought it irresponsible to put children next to strangers) and adoption organisations (who objected that these children would not have been placed with foster parents of different races). All children were consequently painted the same colour as the nearest adult. It was then pointed out that none of the children were sitting next to women, and that women were under-represented overall. One thousand women were added, included several hundred in saris, burkas, and traditional African headgear. Four nuns were placed in the top left-hand corner, one of whom was struck in the face by a clearance from Lee Dixon in the first match. Fifty male Sikhs were also added, some with ceremonial swords, which were then removed on police advice. - See more at: http://barrettsonthisday.anorak.co.uk/uncategorized/2111/highbury-mural-unveiled.html#sthash.T4LP7WPq.dpuf

that bit you've quoted seems to indicate that it wasn't so much racist but just poorly considered, and then they came under multiple attack from the PC brigade.

(I'm not saying that it shouldn't have been changed, btw).

No, not sure. It was simply the way I remembered it. Might have got that wrong. I do recall that folk were saying at the time that the Gunners had the most ethnically diverse fans in the league and the picture was not representative of that. They may have had some...............

The post Suarez LFC era. Awful.

What toothless up front? ;)

That reminded of the Chelsea game last season (in which Suarez played in) and Liverpool cant do anything once they are a goal down and faced with a good organised defense. Villa played if perfectly. Liverpools style does not allow them chase a game

I think I read somewhere that Liverpool have a poor record when coming back from behind.

Liverpools transfer window worries me. They have gambled a lot that last seasons Southampton were the real deal. Its early days but Lambert looks out of his depth, I have never felt Lallana was a top 6 player, while Lovern is probably the most likely of the others to succeed, but Im not convinced he is better than what was already there. To me they would have been better off spreading the money more thinly for some players with track records in the bigger games. I have always believed that the central midfield dictates the way a team plays, I would have liked to have seen Liverpool bring in a top class central midfielder and making them the most important player of the team, but for whatever reason that didn't happen.

I suspect it will end up being between Liverpool and Man utd for 4th, the latter have bought in better players and it will be dependent on whether they click or not.

What happened to Newcastle today?

We were as bad as that against Villa the last two years with Suarez.

We changed the team too much today - partly through injuries and partly through Rodgers throwing in too many new boys today. The front three had never played together before (two making their first starts for us after initial injuries) and it showed big time. Awful stuff.

Squad is good in depth but the cohesion from last year isn't there yet and will take some time. Will be an odd year.
