Football 2014/15

I don't agree with that, but it does make qualifying a bit of a farce for the "bigger" teams with top 2 automatically qualifying. It does, however, give countries such as scotland, NI, Wales etc more of a chance of getting into the eliminators

Wales are never going to win the competition playing great fluid football so yeah it gives opportunities but the tournament becomes less competitive as a whole and therefore is devalued.

I'd argue that it stays just as competitive from 2nd round onwards. Due to freak results, there'll be a couple of close to call games in the second round, as opposed to going straight from groups to QFs.

The last 8 onwards will be just as competitive as before, with the bonus of a last 16 ko round.

Isn't the qualifying meant to make it extremely competitive throughout like the previous Euro?

it is,

basically we have to wait until the final 16 before it gets exciting...

I completely disagree. As a Wales supporter, I would be incredibly excited to see them in the group stage of a euros, this move makes it more likely.

It seems to me the main critics of the changes seem to be fans of the bigger nations, however they need to realise international football does not revolve around them. As a fan of a smaller nation it's frustrating seeing lesser nations get to world cups purely because of favourable geography. These changes give the rest of us a chance, in a system where seeding looks to protect the status quo.

If you look at the last euros Ireland were probably the worse team and there are probably 10-15 teams at a similar level who missed out, I doubt letting more in will ruin the tournament. Some will stink it out, but no worse than England and Russia stank out the last world cup.

If you want the most competitive tournaments give Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Belgium, Italy byes and let the rest compete for a couple of places. To me the euros should be about more than that.

I'm not bothered about who competes, it's more that they've got the stupid third place rules and stuff in an international tournament. Would rather it was 32 teams. You could still have an interesting, competitive tournament with 32 European nations.

It wouldn't surprise me if they move to 32 in the future, but 24 was probably the most they could get away with now. While 32 may seem ridiculous, it would significantly reduce (possibly completely eliminate) qualification. The likes of England, Holland Germany etc would prefer to play high profile friendlies than the likes of Hungary and Bulgaria.

Don't bet on our games, I know creswell was at fault but all the same kouyate could have moved towards the ball stopping Diame getting near it. Content with a point considering we went behind twice, but really could have nicked it at the end

The one thing Allardyce got wrong IMO. After the week he's had Kouyate shouldn't have started the game.

I have the burning question of how is Euro 2016 going to work with 24 teams?

I asked some people about this not long ago and no one knew. The only thing I can come up with is 6 teams in each group, with 2 going through to the next round.

They can't add groups as there'd be the wrong number of teams in the knockout stages.

Probably the same as the World Cup did when it was 24 teams

Credit where's it's due, some entertaining stuff on show tonight. Were it not for a moment of madness from Cresswell we might well have taken all three points.

Anyone put that Diame bet on...? ;)

To be fair, for us he would put something like that into Row Z :P

Yeah 2nd half wasn't bad at all as fair as entertainment goes, just got to hope Enner Valencia isn't done for the season after the wonder goal!

Shocking defending from both sides at times though!

So I see Moyes was a shit Man Utd manager because he would not let them have their chips! Boo Hoo! Im not playing because I want my chips! Apparently first day on the job as caretaker manager and Giggs' first order of business was to put chips back on the menu. Who knew chips were so vital to how you play as a professional footballer!

Given their record under Giggs, not vital at all.
