Football 2014/15

Id say Rio is a particular type of stupid. He very much comes accross that way to me anyway

Rio (and Anton) grew up on the Friary Estate - not many from there ever got much of an education - hardly surprising he isn't known for his general knowledge.

It's pretty common for footballers not to be the highest educated of people - add his background to that (his family were pretty poor) and you understand why he is like he is.

He is though, a pretty decent guy from all accounts.

He's nearing the end of his career, and clearly he isn't as good as he was - to label him as "complete crap" though, particularly without any context at all, is as I said, ridiculous.

He's nearing the end of his career, and clearly isn't as good as he was. He's clearly now complete crap. He was complete crap last year too.

As I said, you didn't see his statue act at the weekend*, did you?

(* whoops, it was Sunday, not Saturday).

My 79 year old mum can play that badly. In fact, she might be able to play better than that. :P

Not by the account from some years back when he organised a "pimps and pros" party for the good folk at Man Utd and there was very strict rules im place including the no phones rule. Im sure everyone in attendance thought he was a decent guy :) , but I reckon the wives/girlfriends of the other players may have thought slightly differently ;)

Anyway I obviously can only judge the fella on the limited crap thats in the media about him and that stuff is, well, limited and also media crap...........His book may say a lot more about him, but im not sure it will be the most riveting of reads

His footballing insights during his punditry moments I have witnessed however are pretty stunted and piss poor on the whole. And this is his field of expertise. The field in which he was schooled to a top level all his adult life

Compare and contrast with Beckham.

Beckham doesn't come across as the sharpest, but at least he comes alive when he talks football.

ITV's choice of game today is appalling. I know it's Liverpool's first in the CL in ages but holds no interest to me whatsoever. Might find a dodgy stream for the Arse game but prob won't bother.

I've just seen who is on itv and that is a strange decision, do they get the choice or sky?

They always have done things like this and apparently it's to do with fanbase. I've seen them put last man u group game on when they.ke already qualified and it's cos they reckon that will get more viewers with the man u fans than they'd attract neutrals to watch - for example - Chelsea, even if theirs is a must win game.

Liverpool probably have more armchair fans than arsenal. That plus it's their first cl game for five years will be their reasoning.

I don't agree with it by the way - just saying that's their thinking.

It's all about the money, I remember reading that it's years since a man u fa cup game wasn't televised.

That one really annoys me, when they put irrelevant games ahead of meaningful ones. Good explanation of their reasoning, even though its utter shite.
