ThomThomDrum
To an extent, but I think when the likes of Arsenal pay 25 million, they are expecting them to be an important players, regardless of nationality. When you say the "likes" of Arsenal I can only imagine that you simply mean "just Arsenal". As there is no other club like them when it comes to size and the likes of their transfer policy. All other "big" clubs tend to splash it a bit more, or in some cases a lot more (has this not been a complaint from Gunner fans in years past? Their conservative approach to spending and equating it to their lack of trophies?) They have only spent that big (25m+) twice and both on foreign players, in the last year, so its not exactly a large data set to work from. Also in both cases the money spent was significantly more that Β£25m Hey maybe Rodgers thinks Lallana can be a "star" player and thats why they spent big on him. I personally don't see it, but then again Im not a Premier League manager. The way I saw it at the time was he was probably worth Β£15-17m and Liverpool paid a premium because he was English, everyone knew Barca were buying Suarez and they are Liverpool (they do tend to over pay a lot for players)
Essex_George
I think Lallana just needs a bit of time to get up to speed after his injury, he will do ok but not a world beater. Moreno looks good though, great going forward and his last ditch tackle last night was superb. Liverpools squad is much bigger this season, but not sure if it is any better. Moreno looks good though, great going forward and his last ditch tackle last night was superb. You're defo right about Lallana needing to get his full-fitness back. Tho like you, I don't see him progressing too much more ... and for how Liverpool play (last season, anyway) I'm not sure he's speedy enough.Moreno looks good, tho so far he's been a bit suspect at times with his defensive duties.I'm more impressed by Lovren. He's looking like he might be a bargain.Liverpools squad is much bigger this season, but not sure if it is any better.I don't think it's hugely better, tho I do think the back-ups are of a stronger strength than they were last season. Last season there were barely any alternative options.

He has been caught out of position a few times and made some basic errors, especially in covering, but its probably all about bedding in and getting used to those around him. He was inconsistent at Southampton as well, it's just his good performances were the ones that got highlights packages.
The Nal
The furore of wellbeck being a wonderful goal scorer has died down tonight. Very typical Welbeck performance last night. Missed two chances that most top strikers would have put away.

LondonTom
What is with Liverpool and Gerrard getting lucky in the final minutes of a game?! It does seem to happen more with Liverpool than most other teams! http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9474022/football-association-planning-to-cut-non-eu-imports-into-england FA want to cut non EU players further, doesn't seem well thought out at all and can't say I agree with any of it apart from stopping the likes of Chelsea buying up talent from outside and then loaning them out until they become good enough. To me mostly it seems to stop smaller clubs from taking a punt on a non eu player before they become to expensive and thus the bigger clubs having to pay less. Its just more bluff to avoid actually you know investing in coaching for kids in England or stopping the big clubs hoovering up the talent for bench warmers or development squads. strummer77
It's a new side and there's a bit of tension after doing so well last season. Blown hot and cold so far, but a win is a win. Thought Balotelli did very well last night overall - not a coincidence he scored when we went 2 up top. Sturridge and Allen being back will be a huge boost and help up the tempo.

Im not the biggest Borini fan but when he came on he mixed it up a bit and just having that along side Mario will give the big fella more space. Sturridge and Balotelli is how we have to go with Borini and Lambert their back-ups respectively. We were great against Spurs with two up top and pretty rubbish all the other times. I reckon Borini is pretty hungry to show he can do something and in the absence of Sturidge Rodgers should take advantage of that. He has nothing to lose, as playing one up front is not an option with this squad IMO.

Lets not forget how that came about? Torres handed in a transfer request and was adamant he was going. He refused to give it until the summer so LFC sold him and had to replace him immediately and in desperation, with the window closing, spent a chunk of the Torres money for Carroll. Of course it was a major waste, but the way they saw it at the time was better to have another striker at the club then Β£50m burning a hole in their pocket and Newcastle knew they had LFC over a barrel. Obviously looking back they may have been better with no other striker at the club as he acted like he was not a stiker

LondonTom
Anyone heard about Joe Lewis wanting out due to Bloomgate, greystone fraud, Kelmsley and Levy...? Just saw the link to the blog on KUMB.....I can't really work out what it has to do with anything or what is going on. But if Levy is up to some sort of fraud it would make sense. The Carroll thing! Good God! Lets not forget how that came about? Torres handed in a transfer request and was adamant he was going. Obviously looking back they may have been better with no other striker at the club as he acted like he was not a stiker and to be fair they got back 15/17m (depending on who you believe plus the loan fee West Ham payed!) on him and considering what his done since since switching...you've got to say Liverpool done well! And again with both Carroll and Lallana, both of them had stonking performances against 'Pool. I think their scouting habits are inconsistent, but then, so are those of most clubs.
