thetime
It's going to be a very long season. Just a normal Liverpool season one would of thought, last season was the exception in many many ways. pink_triangle
I don't think Liverpool fans should overreact at this point, from the 3 games they have lost, I would say 4 points is a par score, so they are only 3 points behind par and plenty of time to make that up. As I have said previously my instinct is that they have completely messed up the last transfer window, but are lucky that none of the others chasing 4th place look great. Interestingly Southampton don't look any worse than they did last season. It makes you wonder if all these players that clubs raided were as good as people thought. If they'd lost Schneiderlin I think it'd be much different. I guess they knew that and that's why they turned down the big money bids for him and let the others go. Gucci Piggy
from the 3 games they have lost, I would say 4 points is a par score, so they are only 3 points behind par I'm probably being stupid here, but if they've got 0 points and 4 is a par score, surely they're 4 points behind par? I meant over the 5 games, but still got the basic maths wrong! I would say 8 points is par for a tough opening 5 games, so Liverpool only 2 behind. Are they really putting there hopes on a 19 year old?

Are they really putting there hopes on a 19 year old? They overperformed last season and have lost their one world class player, regression was always likely. They aren't going to challenge for the title again, but top 4 is realistic, even with my belief they have messed up the transfer window. thegremlin_1999
Messed up how? Wrong transfer policy or just wrong players? They appear to have done a Spurs and bought quantity not necessarily quality. Replacing Suarez (or indeed Bale) wasn't ever going to be easy mind but I'm not sure Rickie Lambert and Balotelli are valid replacements (tho I'm not sure who is... Falcao maybe? If a mid table team without European footy can attract him...)
pink_triangle
Messed up how? Wrong transfer policy or just wrong players? A number of reasons, firstly I think they have fallen for the Southampton hype and invested big money in players no better than they had already. I think in focussing on the defence they have ignored the fact that last season the midfield offered no protection for the defence. While they have increased depth in this area, most look like they have been bought in as squad players. Nobody threatens gerrards position as the number one central midfielder. Also I have always remained unconvinced by ayre as chief executive. I think Liverpool should be attracting better players and I wonder if he is a bit out of his depth in attracting then. Agree completely about Ayre, hasn't ever filled me with confidence. Liverpool didn't only but Southampton players! Moreno is/will be a quality player, Can is a very promising young German player. Mario was always worth a punt at £16m but he needs help up front, unlike Suarez who could basically do it on his own. The big complaint about Liverpool last season, apart from the defence, was the size of the squad. They have tried to address this but they can't afford to pay silly wages unlike some clubs. Liverpool couldn't afford to pay the likes of Falcao £50k a day.
thetime
I must admit its fucking hilarious watching the bubble over Liverpool go BANG Very rare I agree with you Barry, the thread will be nearly a scouse free zone again shortly. #rodgersin
TheGayTent
Twice in less than a week so this feels really weird, but...credit again where it's due, Allardyce outfoxed Rodgers yesterday with tactics both before and during the game. Downing in the hole completely nullified Gerrard's control of the game and he was reduced to the odd long "pass". It was WHU that played the better football and Sterling's goal came completely out of nowhere. Far too early to judge Sakho and Valencia but they do look promising, and Kouyate has almost convinced me already. Allardyce usually plays shite football and is poor in transfer market - not thus far this season - have I woken up in a parallel universe? As for Liverpool?
