I am not against it really as its quite a sensible implementation but I am wondering if this is a big problem as some make out overhere? Are there many black/minority coaches with the proper UEFA badges being overlooked??

Actually it would be intresting to see if the problem is ex players doing their coaching badges more than the interview process? It could be that far less non white players want to do them/get on the courses than the % of current players would suggest being avaliable for managerial careers.

Plus clubs seem to stick with managers they know/have heard of even if they are a bit shit. So maybe its something that will improve as the oldies retire and new managers come through?

My view is there is a form of indirect racism where those who select the manager have a picture of what a manager looks/sounds like and that is someone with a white face. As I have said before (I know some disagree) I dont believe Paul Ince would have started in league 2 with his track record if he had a white face. I know he is a bit of an arse, but there are plenty of white arses that have got better opportuniites!

My understanding was that it was a contract where the payoff was vastly reduced only if the targets that season hadn't been met. Last season we got a top 10 finish which was the contractual target and thus it's only if we get to the end of the season below target that he can be sacked with vastly reduced payout. Basically it has to get to the point of where relegation is so likely that that will cost him more money than sacking Pardew.

yeah, right ... cos Britain's most successful businessman (sadly, tis true*) turned into a right mug when he bought a footie club.

* He's Britain's most successful businessman because of his skill in having contracts written to his favour, btw.

Yeah i guess thats what I was getting at with my old guard comment, its not racist as such I don't think but certaintly they are looking towards the Steve Bruce/Big Sam type of guy in the hot seat mostly.

Footballs governing bodies and refs could learn a lot from this simple 17 second video

http://youtu.be/blaRBdm0wfE

That's pretty typical of Mr Owens and indeed rugby refs in general. Players (and it's usually only the captain who'll speak to the ref in general) call them sir and generally accept what's coming (despite it frequently being ridiculous...)

Footy could learn a lot from how other sports players treat officials.

Me too and tonight I missed Sterling!

To be fair basle was never going to be an easy game, the 2 games against them likely to decide 2nd place.

Although as I've said before, 3rd in the group could be the best chance Liverpool have got for champions league next season.

And I would not agree with that assessment as I would still think that Liverpool have a better chance of getting into the top 4 in the PL this season then they do of winning a European cup competition (CL or UEFA)

Amazed if LFC finish higher than 6th this year.

me too. It's not looking great, is it?

However, there is still the chance they'll turn things around when Sturridge (and perhaps others, such as Allen) is back fit, and they'll push on from there. The Spurs game suggested they can still play at a decent level and style without Suarez.

Overall tho I'm thinking that 5th is going to be their highest possible finishing position - and as high as 5th only cos other teams who did decent last season have also seemingly dropped a bollock too.

Pretty much spot on, could be a surprise package getting 4th this season.

Be funny if it was Southampton.

Liverpool were the surprise package last season, in reality the likes of soton always fall away as squad depth becomes crucial at the latter stages.

The Liverpool squad are inexperienced in terms of Europe and will take time to adapt. As for the league I don't see the pessimism, Liverpool are within touching distance of their rivals for 4th place which is probably their natural level. The games between the sides competing for those final champions league spot will be crucial, an away win at spurs and a draw against Everton isn't terrible

Losing at the Boleyn when Tottenham have already won there and Everton* probably will too, is terrible for them.

*Everton have a very good record at West Ham.

Past performance is not always a reliable indicator of future performance. There is a lot of PL clubs that can attest to that

10 years ago we hadn't won at Anfield for 41 years.

Today we haven't won at Anfield for 51 years.

Past performance is sometimes a very reliable indicator of future performance.
