Camping with a toddler

Hi

We've been to Glastonbury before but this will be the first year with our toddler who is 3. Now I know there are the two family camping areas . How busy do they get? Also are they noisy with kids at night crying etc? Our little boy sleeps well but I'm a very light sleeper so would hope for a peaceful night sleep!

The other option would be to camp elsewhere, where would be quiet? And not likely to be flooded?

This is based on taking my daughter in 2010, so things may have changed a little. The original family camping field (can't remener the name but it's the one next to the kids field) gets very busy very quickly so unless you're in early you'll struggle to find a place. Wicket Ground on the other hand never really got that busy the whole weekend and was as quieter place as any you'd find on site as it's far away from most of the late night stuff. It's also quite a way up the vally on a gentle slope (which gets a little steeper the further up you go) so flooding risk would be minimal.

As far as I remember there is are campsite crew on each of entrances, I didn't ever see them actively 'policing' those going in and when I arived my daughter wasn't with us and nobody said anything, but maybe the do/would question say a a big group of young lads without children. but in general I found that it was only families in there. Sorry that's a bit rambly but I found it a really good place to camp, very chilled, quiet and on the Monday morning the place was spotless. It's denfinitely where I would go again if I had the family with me.

Brill, thanks for your help. We have decided to camp there despite it being far away. We have a double bike trailer for the little one for round the festival so won't be a problem using tent just for sleeping in and spending the whole day out...we can't be bothered trekking to tent in day as we will do enough trekking round the rest of the site!

They don't seem to stop non-families which I assumed they did. A couple of years ago we foolishy headed for Kidney Mead to find it was full, a campsite steward directed us into the most southern part of Cockmill Meadow which we didn't realise at the time was family camping, I felt so guilty!

We were a group of 8 20-30 year olds, but in context two of our friends were on their honeymoon and had left their kids with grandparents, and the rest of us are fairly sensible bunch so we kept our partying elsewhere and didn't make any noise in the camp.

Noticed other non-families, like a couple who were working on a market stall, but for some reason were camping there, but everyone seemed very respectful of the fact that there were obviously children about, so even if it's not strictly families only, I wouldn't be too concerned

You'll like a Wicket Ground. Loads of space, quiet and very friendly. My friend and her brother were relocated there a couple of years ago after some violent drugged up tossers slashed and threatened to burn their tent one afternoon in Hitchin Hill (they are in their 50's and v nice people). Have to say a v v v unusual incident at Glasto and they've been going since the 1980's.
