Hehe, very good point, Tony. I'll answer it as honestly as i can.

I'm an old man. I've kicked around long enough and listened to enough music to know i'm going to fucking hate anything described as 'rock' or ' metal' or 'guitar based'. I'm not going to enjoy anything featured in Kerrang. I'm pretty much not going to go for anything pre-fixed with the word 'Stadium'. I know which friends to trust when it cones to reccomendations, which ones to treat with suspicion. I listen to a lot of music, but yiu know, after 40+ years of kicking around, i kind of know which things do it for me and which things don't. Is that stereotyping? Possibly. Do we all do it? Yeah, i reckon we do, if we're honest. I've never seen 'strictly come dancing', but i'm willing to bet i wouldn't like it and i'd be better off watching the latest thing from David Simon.

If you dont have some sort of filter you end up thinking all music is equally valid, which lets be honest, is cobblers. Some music, some genres are dogshit. I mean 99% of all art is dogshit, it's a case of finding that breathtaking lifechanging 1% that knocks you off your feet. But i can fucking guarantee that the 1% wont be, for me, found in classical music, or in a mills and boon novel or in religious iconography.

I am pretty similar really. I spent a large period of my life hunting down obscure piano breakbeat and Italian house vinyl from 1992 that I stopped paying attention to what new stuff was coming out. I spent more time in record shops and nightclubs than I did at gigs and in the NME.

If I heard something that appealed while out and about then I would go out of my way to find out what it was.

I have not purposely been avoiding music I did not like but more been too busy to actively look for new music within the mainstream indie and pop genres.

Now I do not go clubbing anymore then my listening habbits are changing again. I spent a long time listening to Depeche Mode again after a good 10 year hiatus.I then started giving the big new bands a listen. I found Arcade Fire ok but The Artic Monkeys are crap. They would have been an echobelly level band during Britpop or Baggy eras.

I have found though with the rise of the whole pop idol and x factor formats that average bands seem to stand out now and they are being lauded. I suppose it is like being a decent heavyweight boxer in this era.

As I said earlier I see the two most likely headliners as Foo Fighters and Fleetwood Mac.

Now that Fleetwood Mac are seemingly out, and going back to Michael supposedly booking a band sidestage at Metallica, I'll go with the third as AC/DC or Muse.

Lots of people were thinking the Download trio would be Slipknot, GNR and AC/DC based on assorted info, but it's now been confirmed that one of their headliners has never played before, so that can't be correct, so I'll say AC/DC will be at Glastonbury rather than there.

Florence and the Machine

AC/DC

Foo Fighters

Would only see the Foos, and maybe AC/DC if nothing else was on, but it'd be a strong set.

Recent reports say that Florence's album is done but no time window provided for a release date.

Said it'l be 'sometime' in 2015. They really have taken their time with this album haven't they... I was really expecting them to release it in 2014.

I'd enjoy all of those, and I'd have AC/DC and Foos as must sees so I'd have to hope for poor headliners and subs on all the other stages. :P

I'm not so sure about AC/DC though. They could have just chosen their own shows instead of doing any fests as it looks like that's what they're doing on the continent. Plus I don't think Mensch actually represents them - but that 'not British anymore' thing adds up. Mensch represents RHCP anyway. :thumbsu:

The rumours about Adele's album coming out next year have been building up and I don't believe they'd have even stopped trying to get her yet if that's true. She's top of their list - above Prince!

Very true about AC/DC. I'd prefer RHCP anyway :ninja:

Irrespective of the amount of salt needed to be taken with any of Mr. Eavis' comments, where has it come from that it was Mensch that made the booking? There was no mention of who it was, and I don't think it's inconceivable that a representative of acdc (or any other rock band for that matter) was watching Metallica from the side of the stage.

Seems to me the Mensch thing was lazy journalism, particularly as he hadn't represented acdc for a long long time.
