CaledonianGonzo
People will complain about AC/DC being metal, even though they're not. They must be. Tipper Gore said so. (Probably)
the wonderwhy
Faith No More on the Other opposite some bollox like Flo/T-Swift please. They're gonna end up subbing like Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins (if they play) But yeah, Faith No More, Muse and Anti Flag from that announcement, please
Matt42
So muse are about the end of May then...

Although I guess they could overlap a bit, can't remember how the timings work out.
mr gumby
transfer deadline day for festivals would be great tho...'and reading have got blink 182 in on loan AGAIN' More like a free transfer!
mr gumby
Also stresses how he thinks Taylor Swift would be brilliant in the 'Dolly' slot given her country routes I think there are enough country 'routes' around Pilton already, it's rural somerset after all! eastynh
hehe, of course, the upshot of this is that we can conclude that all the people I come with are representative of the new type of Glastonbury goer that pretty much everyone on these boards despises and moans about What is the new type of Glastonbury customer? GlastoSimon
Interesting re: Muse that the eFests article states that this German festival they're playing has the same promoter as Sonisphere. Wonder if they'll do the same as Metallica did last year? Them doing a festival at the end of May is probably a little bit early to be saying they're likely, but a few other announcements for festivals in June and we might be onto something! jonodillieono
I severely doubt Muse would play Download
Ipayne
I don't see why not, Copping wants them and I doubt Muse would be averse to playing it when they're playing the same kind of festival in Germany.

It isn't really that they're doing a festival in May - it's that they're doing festivals in Europe at all. End of May is close enough that a big act like Muse would certainly still be hanging around at the end of June for the big three festivals. I feel that if Muse aren't announced for Download they'll be very likely for Glasto. IOW surely? I wouldn't think Download would particularly be their crowd, even with the new 'heavy direction' they're supposed to be taking. EDIT: Good point you just made though. I still don't think Download would be top of the list but we'll have to wait and see. havent muse only just played? what a desperately unimaginative booking that would be. Running out of headliners. I just read this which highlighted the vision of the festival in regard to headliners. Edited November 5, 2014 by dentalplan
GlastoSimon
havent muse only just played? what a desperately unimaginative booking that would be. But would you be surprised? I was thinking about the prospect of Muse - AC/DC or Foo Fighters - Taylor Swift yesterday, and whilst it was massively underwhelming it sounded about right to me. Thankfully, it looks as if Taylor Swift won't necessarily headline if she plays, so that's a good sign I guess. Still gives me hope for a decent headliner on the Sunday. They're hardly going to start touring festivals in Europe then feck off to America or somewhere in June. It's now just about which UK festivals they play, if they play them at all. The prospect of Download/Sonisphere still looks a possibility to me, although that's probably because this German festival is quite 'hard rock' orientated. Isle of Wight may be on their agenda too, thinking about it.
russycarps
2010 - so yes really. Although 5 years has been done before hasn't it? well coldplay did 2002 and 2005!
Gucci Piggy
Could Muse do Download and Glastonbury? Obviously Glastonbury won't care in terms of sales, and I would think Copping would be happy enough with getting a huge mainstream band like Muse that he wouldn't mind them not being exclusive, especially when it's unlikely many of Download's potential punters will have Glastonbury tickets. There are tons of bands that could headline. They just need to set their sights lower than the megastars. The glastonbury crowd would soon get used to it. I guess its just too much of a gamble in case the crowd didnt go for it though.
Matt42
I completely forgot about IOW. Muse haven't played that for ages, reckon they could fit the "no big London shows" that giddings said.

I guess so re: Swift, although I'm just fed up of the 'shitty Sunday headliner' pattern that seems to be occurring in recent years. There's plenty of good options about, it's just about whether they're 'big' enough to do it. I think Eavis shits himself a little bit over the 2008 ticket sales, hence why the safe options are taken most of the time (although I suppose Metallica weren't that safe this year - still a big act though). I don't think it'll be long before the likes of Foals and Biffy Clyro are given a chance, but even they're quite underwhelming. Thank God their is always some exciting stuff elsewhere on the site Edited November 5, 2014 by GlastoSimon
