While I understand that most people are thinking logically, there seems to be a lot of sweeping statements about how the general public are going to react if they don't get the line up asap. A lot of talk of outrage and cancelled tickets.

Surely at this stage everyone that has paid for their balance has done so not knowing the line up and potentially everyone that buys one in the resale will do so without knowing the line up?

Do we really think that those people will go to the trouble of cancelling a ticket after being content to part with £200?

Announcing even a quarter of the line up will surely be beneficial for ticket sales.

Unless it really is that bad.

You're assuming that there is a need for a factor that is beneficial to ticket sales.

120 000 tickets gone in 26 minutes and lots of reportedly frustrated, unsuccessful people in October suggests to me that the resale will be over in a trice, announcement or no.

Michael visited someone called Richard Holmes at his place of work today and he told him it's coming out at 9:00 am TOMORROW. Yes. Sounds like a wind up but he is there on FB pictured with the great man and insists its legit. Could it be true?

Haven't read since this, so sorry if it's sorted already!

Michael went to a school to meet the kids. He spoke to two teachers who happen to be on the FB group. They said that he'd told them there wouldn't be an announcement for weeks.

Rich Holmes runs the group. He took the first guy's photo and made up some bull about a 9am announcement. He's always doing it. He's "hilarious" like that. You can safely ignore anything he posts :)

Edit: the first two guys ( the teachers) seem ok. Although yeah, you never know on there!

Yes, I'd put my left nut on it. Seetickets don't get paid enough by Glasto to handle mass returns. BBC will want to start negotiations and putting the coverage / ads together. The average festival attendee will return ticket choose to go to a festival with a line up announced

great point

Mass returns? The average festival goer returning tickets? Really? Or have I missed the irony in your post?

Yes, have you seen the reaction on Twitter and Facebook to the lack of a line up announcement. People are loosing their shit! I'm talking about the run of the mill festival attendee here not a festival fanatic like members on eFests.

Most people go glastonbury festival for the music first and foremost. And have come to expect a certain quality in the line up. Mass refunds may have been a bit excess, but if nothing has been announced by the refund cut off date they will have above average refund requests

Again, whilst this may be true, craig, does the unprecedented demand in October (upgraded servers notwithstanding) not indicate that they will shift an even higher than usual number of returns?

There is, of course, an argument that the returnees will be replaced by those who are not put off by the lack of an announcement...by, dare I say it, people who are a bit more attuned to the true philosophy of GF...

Just a thought.

exactly. i love all these crackpots going on about how it is a complete outrage that the line-up is being kept from them and they are personally entitled to be advised of it immediately.

there's no obligation for them to release it. they'll do it as and when they want. the festival will be sold out within minutes even if the line-up is released on friday 26 june.

unfortunately, you'll never get a psychopath to calm down. some of the posts people make in regard to when the line-up should be released suggests that they are seriously deranged.

Well I have seen this kind of reaction to Glastonbury for years since I first heard about the festival in the eighties tbrough CND youth magazine. The reality is although the festival will always have its waxing and waning, lineup announcements and individual artists will do little to alter this. I am extremely dubious of claims to the contrary as they have never been proven. Jay Z, I am convinced had no influence on tickets sold but a foot of mud certainly did.

Yeah, it's funny, as I'm a classic 'homework' festival goer - I do masses of band research, uncover loads of hidden must see gems, and so would want the line-up at the earliest possible opportunity.

However, I'm kind of enjoying watching the whole thing unravel at the moment as I, perhaps over-romantically, think that if it carries on like this, my first ever Glastonbury will be exclusively populated by true believers, and all the tits will have fallen by the wayside!

there are very few dickheads at glastonbury no matter the line-up, i wouldn't be too worried about that.

There's 12 of us going in my group, roughly half been before/half newbies like myself - none of us had any thoughts of not paying the balance last week. We'll be going whoever ends up playing. And neither headliner announced so far have been particularly well received.

Completely unscientific sample I know, but I do wonder how many of those shouting the loudest on fb and Twitter were ever actually going in the first place.
