If I want to hear Beatles songs on the Pyramid, I'm happy with the interval songs they play on CD before the acts come on stage.

Macca's legacy obviously goes without saying, but seeing him perform live at this stage in his career really isn't for me (and many on here it would seem!).

Surely with the whole previous comments being disregarded and other tickets to sell... The Strokes could be back in the picture?

I know they're not huge anymore but I'd imagine they'd get a similar crowd to arcade fire and:

Foo and fighters, Kanye, Strokes

Would be a fairly impressive set of headliners (i think we've already got our 2 big headliners in foos and kanye).

Yep but you've got to wonder whether they'd be bothered about going after The Strokes when they could just bump up Florence and the Machine.

This is true, but presuming flo was gonna sub prince they would need to book at least one decent sized act to sub or headline - flo/alt-J or whatever as a top two would just be fucking weak.

I dunno I mean flo/the strokes or the strokes/flo would be a pretty strong top two - but one of them headlining with a weak sub would be pretty poor.

Am i making any sense?!

Along with abba they were widely thought of as one of the naffest bands around throughout the 80s, 90s and most of 00s.

Then they appeared on glee and they became flavour of the month, and the hype escalated from there.

I've watched the whole sorry saga happen from afar with incredulous eyes.

What?! I wouldn't even compare the two tbh....I got into them in the late 80's when Tango in the night came out and those "naff hits" you talk about were doing well in the charts, I don't remember them ever being viewed as naff back then by any means to be honest.....fair enough you & a few others think that but don't class this as worldwide opinion as you don't know that

Remember them having a come back in the 90's which is when I feel their cult classic status started kicking in, I remember watching them get the longtime achievement or something like that award at the Brits around 97?? and they played great set...again was not under the impression they were regarded as naff

No idea about the Glee renaissance tbh as never watched it but understand it apparently put them back in the public eye but as I say as far as I'm concerned I've loved them for years and not doing it in the terms of "fashion" or sheep like reasons, just because you don't think much of them doesn't mean others think the same.. :)

Yeah but I don't agree. alt-j aren't a weak sub and I think either of Florence and the Machine or The Strokes would be fine headliners but before the avalanche of people who think The Strokes are bandstand headliners now come in I can't see them playing at all anyway.

I just don't buy the Strokes as headliners any more. Is This It? was 13 years ago and since then they've not come close to equalling its impact.

You could say the same about a load of bands.

They'd be a smaller headliner, but they could do it. ALthough they probs wouldn't cos they're selfish buggers who like dolla.

The idea of Fleetwood Mac headlining Glastonbury was incomprehensible in any year up until about 2010.

They reason is because they were considered dad rock of the highest order!

If you'd confessed to being a fan before then most people would have roared with laughter.

Micks Brits hosting performance sums the whole band up: cringe!

Two of the most 'dad rock' acts ever to exist headlined in 2009 so I don't buy that at all. I think calling them rock is elevating their status a bit anyway, they're clearly a pop band.

Tbh tho Russy I'd have thought one of their members coming from a public school background* would be enough grounds for derision of them for your liking, no real need to stretch to questionable statements about who bought their records 40 years ago ;)

EDIT: after a quick google there appears to be no substance to this claim which I was fed by my Dad, but I'm sure someone can find something.

Bruce Springsteen and Neil young were never considered naff in the same way as Fleetwood Mac though. They were the epitome of a guilty pleasure act

The public school angle is not required in this case, there is enough ammo without it..

That is total BS and it seems to be only your narrow minded opinion, I've liked them for years and nobody has laughed in my face when I've said this so that kinda of blows your argument out of the water TBH

I remember being laughed at for not liking Erasure in the 80's as apparently it was deemed weird not to like them, but that just sums up people being daft for not allowing people to like who they want & pushing their opinion on folk as the truth...kinda boll*cks really isn't it??

Yes Mick presenting at the Brits was the worst but that has got nothing to do with this discussion

Festival bookings seem to work around demand & who they can get, just because FM weren't playing them back then means nothing, you have no idea if they were considered or actually asked - again this is your own opinion not fact...

Festivals & booking process have totally changed over the years anyway so again just because certain bands weren't playing doesn't mean anything IMO

Actually I think they were considered and the idea was laughed out of Micheal Eavis' kitchen when he said something to the effect of 'no one listens to them anymore, are they still relevant?' Basically saying they were pretty naff.

I had made a decision and I will remain to get all my headline rumours and tittle tattle from this thread and not the rival splinter thread that has emerged over the last 20 hours.

It's been a long and difficult relationship at times and I'm not willing to give up on everything that's been worked for in here.

keep up the good work
