Saw Porcupine Tree at their last ever gig (to date anyway) at the RAH - absolutely stunning.

They were down to play Avalon in 1998 but due to the conditions, Avalon was closed the whole weekend and they didn't get a chance to play.

I think ME owes them another shot if they ever decide to get together again.

Then again, Steven Wilson would work well on WH or Avalon or Acoustic.

I love you. I have been after SW playing for years.

Not sure how a 2 hour prog set would work unless he was a headliner though but would love him to play. His band are pure class.

What do they want it for? They don't even take all the drugs these days do they?

Apparently not. But rehab centres in Thailand don't come cheap.

I saw them at BST last year and we were approximately 3 AUs from the stage, due to some ridiculous 'Gold Circle' shit they pulled where certain people got to enjoy the gig from a reasonable distance. It lead to a farcical situation where there was a huge gap between the first group of people and the plebs trapped behind the outer barrier. Unimpressed to say the least.

Is that just a guess that they want more money tho? Or is there some foundations to it?

I first posted about the money situation and it does have foundations. A friend of mine is close with members of the band and he found out directly that there management was asking for far too much money and talks broke down. All I know conclusively is that early in the year talks between the band and the festival took place (before Reading/T announcements) but they didn't go any further because of the money and the likelihood of it being resolved seemed very slim. It is worth pointing out that this was a few weeks ago and of course things can always change. It could potentially tie into the supposed fact that the headliner has only just been signed up. From what I was told it was extremely unlikely that it would happen and that people close to the band are very disappointing that negotiations where a no-go because certain members of the band attend Glastonbury every year as fan, so you'd think there would be more leniency to negotiate. Things can always change though.

In all fairness that gold circle shit is a BST stipulation not one from the band. Every BST gig at HP has it.

I saw these 2 last night. This was the setlist..(copied and pasted)

Was incredible....

  2. (Sting cover)
  3. (Paul Simon cover)
  4. (Sting cover)
  5. (Paul Simon cover)
  6. Sting
  7. (The Police cover)
  8. (The Police cover)
  9. (Sting cover)
  10. (Sting cover)
  11. (Paul Simon cover)
  12. (Paul Simon cover)
  13. (Paul Simon cover)
  14. (The Police cover)
  15. (Sting cover)
  16. (Paul Simon cover)
  17. (Paul Simon cover)
  18. (Paul Simon cover)
  19. Encore: Paul Simon & Sting

Me and the Mrs were at that very same gig.

Man tears were shed. Absolutely brilliant.

Both were on top form, despite some reviews mentioning Paul Simon having a very ropey voice at previous gigs.

Interesting. I wonder if glasto would go back and offer more now they'l have more available after the third headliner has dropped out (supposedly) And they could be more desperate (maybe)

The only thing with this is it would mean paying more money for a band playing at seemingly every festival going... I think they'd rather bump someone up and pay more for the undercard, or call in Damon and his mates or something along those lines than pay more for the Libs who wouldn't even be particularly inspired (as much as I would love to see them)?

yeah I agree, but as I said his set length and song length rather alienates him from festival crowds a bit. It is amazing how he got a pure prog album in Hand Cannot Erase into the top 20 in this day and age of autotune and Simon Cowell domination!

I am going to both nights at Royal Albert in September and have been to every London show he has done in the past few years since he went solo so I could live without him at Glasto :P

I think he would be a perfect WH headliner or even JP as I would prefer to see him inside

Incorrect. Music snobs are generally c**ts. A true music fan will give anything a go and you either like it or you dont, no matter what the genre or who likes it or dislikes it.

Totally agree and they don't start going on with themselves at a person just because they something you don't and rant on how what they like is far superior to what you like - whatever!! :stink:

much as I dont really belive it because its the daily star if the story on prince pulling out `was` true....that should be the last time eavis gives him the chance to play, if hes going to be that much of an asshole he needs to know the festival is a lot bigger then he is!

To be fair, I usually find pull out to.

Let's leave Milburn out of this please and thank you.

and The Fratellis :ninja:

Depends, if you like to be able to go see acts you like, live I think. You could like the music but never become a "fan" of the band, cause everytime you see time live, its full of c**ts ruining the gig.

(It might they are just c**ts to you/or you don't like how that crowd behaves, which I'd say there is nothing wrong either.)

Whilst we're on mid noughties Indie bands. I'd love to see Art Brut at Glasto this year.

Criminally underrated.

Art Brut were/are fantastic. Eddie Argos came to one of my college band gigs once and 'borrowed' our band name for one of this side projects which later turned into Glam Chops.

They won't bump someone up that's already announced tho will they? Bit shambolic if so. Not that I've personally got a problem with it. Maybe bring someone like Noel in who's probably not glasto headline status but would put on a good show and I suspect bring in a big crowd? And he's expressed he would like to do it in past.

I'm basing this on glasto struggling to get someone which is most probably not the case anyhow.

Gareth of LC! was telling a story about one of these proper shite bands at their Manc gig, I think it was The Fratellis or the Enemy (someone else who was at the gig correct me).

He said their roadies were instructed to empty out bottles of lager and fill them with water so they could look like lads on stage.

Ha. That is excellent. I used to work at a venue in Warwickshire at a private backstage bar and can attest to The Enemy being heavy drinkers, and actually not as obnoxious as I would have imaging. The Fratelli's would strike me as they types to fake drink to look like lads though. Either way, we can all agree that they have fairly terrible music.

they're not gonna bump up an already announced act, and at this stage, i assume they've got the headliner nailed down. it may not be who they were initially after (Prince) but they've got somebody, who is probably Blur, which isn't a bad result at all considering how excited people were to have them headline before all the Prince rumours started up again - definitely not a 'bump up' act like Pulp, Basement Jaxx and Gorillaz were at the times of their headline slots

Is this nailed on info? Hope so

No idea if it's nailed on. It's what Neil has said he believes to be true and I'm always inclined to believe what he says. Plus why would they put Special Guests so high up on the poster if they then get a mid-sized band/aritsts and bump up another act to the headline slot?
