So just out of interest, not only isn't there any mention of 'exclusive' on the IOW festival site anymore, it's not on their Facebook or twitter either... it seems like the announcement tweet/posts (if there were any) have also been removed. Bit weird considering how front and centre the Fleetwood Mac exclusive news was when it first came out.

Maybe it's just me being dense but I've looked twice now and can't find mention of it anymore...

it's not gonna be the Stone Roses. there is literally zero evidence pointing towards them, and a whole bunch of evidence pointing towards it not being them

I do kind of agree. The only really logical act seems to be Blur and I can see why many are presuming it will be them and I keep saying it but - I just can't see it at all. 3rd headline slot for Albarn in 6 festivals?

I do wonder who it was (if anyone) that dropped out to leave them looking for someone else, and made them unable to announce the act. Surely this 3rd headliner MUST be a 2nd choice for them being in a situation where they have to leave it so late?

That's why I thought Stone Roses could be a possibility - because of the secrecy the band may want. Can't think of anyone else bar Bowie who would want it kept quiet for now.

No he has hasn't, he has again posted this morning in response that it's straight from Glasto staff that have told that, he's never been lied to in that respect before and he doubts they are now. I'm keeping fingers crossed for Fleetwood Mac. Prince is out, Macca is out, it won't be The Roses and I'm less sure about Blur.

Why is macca out? Did I miss this?

i agree that somebody must've trailed them on for some time and then let them down in order for them to have to announce so late - it could be down to a demanding act, but tbh the only realistic act i can think who fits in to that would be Prince (to sell out his own shows / incorporate this in to his Hit and Run tour). the Roses? i just don't see it - reckon they would've just announced the album / their return by now and Glastonbury in the process

i also agree that Blur would be an odd one, but if they were really stuck for a headliner and Blur are playing a week beforehand, i guess they'd rather snatch them up if possible than go for a lesser headliner or bump somebody up

Just by that he's done it mate and it's been commented on that they are glad they got him when they did. I'd be shocked if it was him. I think he'd have been given the Friday or Saturday as well.

Anything's possible, it's not like they haven't had acts twice, and when the alternative is to book a Florence or Mumfords-tier band, having a Beatle on the bill is not a bad thing. And Paul McCartney would be an incredible Sunday night headliner.

i doubt it's Fleetwood Mac themselves who give a shit about the exclusivity, so an old article on their site doesn't mean much - i doubt they'd go back and edit it if the situation changed. it'll be IOW / Giddings who'd have to try and wipe the exclusivity slate clean

Yeah. Just because Prince 'isn't playing and hasn't pulled out' doesn't mean that they could have been putting faith in him signing I suppose. Hadn't thought of that angle. Edited by MichaelsBeard

How has anyone come to the conclusion that anyone pulled out? Apart from it seems this conspiracy theory circulates every year.

just due to the situation of the final headliner not being announced yet and it being (apparently) due to contractual reasons. maybe it was always the plan and they knew full well what they were doing, but i doubt it, and Neil had info that the headliner was a late booking which makes it seem to me that there was somebody else in mind who didn't pan out

Exactly, it'll be the promoter that says this is you're clause until such and such time and if their tour has worked out until now that the only gap was IOW Festival then they can use that term if nothing else was going to book before in the run up to the festival and any announcement for something after the festival wasn't made until after. This is where they would get away with it in June. As crappy as it would, after the IOW weekend, the booked clause is no longer a clause.

Don't take it so literally the point of unless anything comes from The Sun lol, it was more saying that if something from a newspaper then out of them all The Sun is probably the most reliable. The Mirror just runs what The Star prints a few days later.

Ah fair enough cheers. Only got a ticket on Thursday so haven't been following that closely. It seems to come up every year and not have much to it apart from last year.

I just wonder if Glastonbury are happier than some other festivals to leave it late (e.g. Stevie Wonder 2010) as they don't rely on headliners to sell tickets. Once they've got two booked maybe they sit and wait knowing they've got someone they can bump up if need be or an act may come up late (e.g.if that's what's happened with Blur or F Mac this year)
