and why would Glastonbury care about those ticket sales?

there's plenty of artists announced already playing elsewhere throughout the summer...

as paulmuchmore said, if they're not exclusives, then there's nothing stopping Glastonbury from announcing. why wouldn't TITP hold back announcing Noel until after Calling, for example...

BST and Clapham Common can be considered the artist's own gigs rather than as part of a wider festival - ticket sales may affect the final payout they receive.

I'll give you the perfect example.

I might go and see Noel at Clapham Common. But it's the week after Glastonbury and if he's on at Glasto I won't bother.

Other people not going to Glastonbury will likely just say "oh we'll just watch him on the BBC" rather than pay £65 + beer and travel for Clapham Common.

The later they leave the announcement for Glasto, the more people they hope will buy for Clapham Common who might have been swayed.

That is not at all to say that the number of people who could be swayed not to go by Noel being on at Glasto is high, but it's the kind of consideration the promoter will make to save ticket sales.

Copy the same situation for Blur and BST, and to a lesser extent IOW.

I absolutely get that, but it wasn't really my point.

My point was that this never has really been that much of a consideration in previous years, except with exclusivity agreements, like Metallica. In fact, Glastonbury quite often are sharing their headliners with other festivals, and that hasn't held back the announcements until June before just because people may not buy a ticket to another festival because it'll be on the BBC.

Glastonbury, and the act themselves, probably wouldn't care about the sales of another festival too much.

Struggling to keep up on here.

IMO this June 1st thing is just to do with the contract Fleetwood Mac have signed with IOW. Once June arrives they are free to sign up to whatever they want without damaging ticket sales for IOW.

All this collaboration stuff is bollocks. Like they'd take a chance on something that important.

No chance.

Noel isn't playing BST.

if Clapham is his own gig and his payout if dependent on ticket sales (which i very much doubt, promoters usually pay a set fee to the artist), then why were TITP allowed to announce Noel ages ago?

The other possibility in this increasingly crazy world we're in, is that IF they are considered joint headliners then the Special Guests would remain TBA until both could be announced together.

And if the delay is on Blur and BST then Noel cannot be announced until Blur can be.

I have sad news. My Mum passed away this afternoon. She died peacefully in hospital.I'd be pleased if you would all have a drink in her honour at Glastonbury, any time, any place.Your discussions with me over the last few months have helped me to cope with the inevitable. Thanks guys. Now bring on the rest of the line up!

ok, well i'm not talking about Blur, i'm talking about NGHFB.

Noel and Blur playing together is pretty far fetched and extremely unlikely.

as it stands, there's no reason why if NGHFB are palying Glastonbury, that they'd have to hold it back, as other festivals haven't...

I don't think there's any chance of them playing together.

I think there's every chance of NGHFB followed by Blur as joint headliners.
