Neil, your point that the mystery third headliner has other shows makes sense and thats good enough for me. Is it possible that these other shows have still to be announced ? eg. The Roses are about to announce a load of outdoor gigs across the UK or Prince is soon to announce 20 nights at the O2 etc

If this were true then it could be anybody.....apart from Muse or ACDC.

I`ll guess Taylor Swift into Prince was the plan but he is pissing them about so there going to either bump up Swifty or get some dross like Calvin Harris to finish things off.

yes, it's possible that the other shows aren't yet announced, but I'd say that's on the less likely end of things.

I'd say it's exceedingly unlikely that the Roses are about to announce a load of summer shows. If they were doing summer shows they'd have wanted the tickets to be out there before everyone had spent their money on other festivals and perhaps committed to being elsewhere on the particular dates. It's not impossible they'd announce them this late, but I'd say it's near enough impossible as it would make no commercial sense.

Prince is about the only large act who might announce shows this late, but he's been very specifically ruled out. It's NOT Prince.

Noel Gallagher!?! Give me a break.

people told me Jack White wouldn't be big enough to do it in his solo capacity (don't start telling me he was rubbish last year, it has been noted) and yet here we are discussing Noel Gallagher.

It has to Blur btw, i can't think of any other possibilities.

Cheers. This " it`s not Prince " talk is not good news though for a Friday :(

Why couldn`t you have just ruled out Rihanna or Calvin Harris or some other shit :)

word I've heard is that sales are worryingly poor at a number of the festivals with the more rock-ie line-ups - whilst the likes of that new Wildlife festival flew out of the door. So I wouldn't necessarily use the fact of Calling not being sold out as an indicator in the way you're doing, as this year seems to be working in a different way to the past.

I agree he probably wasn't first choice for T, but he's a good enough for T to choose as proven by them booking him.

Whether he's headlining Glastonbury or not he's about in the ballpark of that status, even if it might be at the lower end.

Well added on to the fact that dance is the bigger seller and is having it's time at the minute, getting Sam Smith as a sub there when both T and V have him as sub there is massive for them. The main stage is very strong for Sunday as well, if you like that sort of thing, you seem to have a got a good deal for your money.

To be fair, it wasn't so much calling as 45k for a headliner even at Glasto would still be okay, it's the Latitude I was pulling on. I'm not sure I agree on that he's good enough for T, I think you agreeing about him probably not being 1st choice may extend to him having been to only choice. I have no doubts that if T could have booked him lower they would, a Latitude header is not a T header unless you ran out of options. Ellis can say he definitely thinks he can do it but after paying for him and booking him there he isn't going to say we'll see but I had no choice.

Florence would be a more likely headliner than Noel?

Surely it's someone bigger than Florence on the basis she's a sub?

That sounds like it should make sense, but it doesn't necessarily work in that way.

From what I heard about last year, all of the subs were booked in for for very specific days and stayed there, with perhaps the chance to get bumped up to headliner for that day depending who else might be available, while at least one of acts they had pencilled in as headliner did get switched around ()in what they'd got pencilled in, it didn't happen at all in the end).

If what I heard was right then it's probably the case that if Flo is subbing Foos, she'd have only ended up as headliner if the Foos hadn't signed on the dotted line.

Yeah even if The Roses were planning to do later shows like September, I'd still doubt it.

Do you think though that it's possible that both sub and headliner have been held back due to selling other shows tickets?

ha! what?! I agree with you with him being different, just like JayZ as suggested before, but 2 or 3 mainstream songs?! What?!

I did clarify that by saying Im not that into hip hop/rap, and checked Wiki for his hits ... I see he has some more hits than Im aware of, often collaberations though, so I dont know how they work out?

I hope it comes off ok. Im not compaining about it!

you're making the mistake of thinking the object is to get the best acts possible to headline. It's not.

It's to get the best possible line-up across all stages with the budget available - with that putting limits on how much will go on the headliners, and the price of one headliner impacting onto who the other headliners might be.

Within all of the parameters they have to work to Noel was indisputably the best option they had otherwise they would have booked the better option - but that's something that applies to *every* headliner that *any* festival ever books.
