But do you get what I mean? Arcade Fire are critically acclaimed but hardly a household name, so stick Elbow on beforehand to make people happy. Same sort of thing with Florence: I reckon she would sub to either i) a non-household name (similar to Elbow-Arcade Fire) or ii) An act whose name carries a lot of weight (NGHFB)

Elbow weren't a strong sub in the end though. It's just because we thought they'd be given the bump up because of very early predictions and Neil's early info. They slipped down the bill at other fests.

Florence is absolutely primed to headline festivals. Debut album she headlined Latitude, subbed IOW, subbed 2nd stages at T, V and Glastonbury. Second album she subbed T, R+L and headlined Bestival. Number one albums and sell out arena tours. Unless she's completely fudged it on the next record then she's headlining festivals at that rate.

Is Noel G really such a big name? blimey, my finger is well off the pulse.

Always will be in the UK. His tours and records sell better than Kasabian's... and they were tipped to fill Oasis' role as the biggest UK band!

That's a very good argument :-(

Florence and the Machine, Foo Fighters, Elton John. Would be near-impossible to get a ticket for 2016 if that trio came to be.

That's who I'm thinking at the moment tbh. Gonna miss Radiohead's Pyramid homecoming.

At this point last year, I'd have said they were a strong sub, especially given the suggestion they may headline. You do however make a compelling argument re: Florence.

Nobody has ever said that to me before. :')

In terms of mainstream appeal come off it..

For a 'Legend' Elton is smaller that most from recent years. It would likely be Flo's first major UK festival headline. Foo's are massive of course, but I don't think it would make more people want to go than after say 2013.

we do seem to have rather gone round in circles this year

at the start of the thread a bunch of people said Foos/Flo/FM, then everyone forgot about Flo and FM went out the window, then Foos got pretty much confirmed then today Flo started looking likely again, just need Mick and co to turn up after all..

Weren't Elbow originally booked to headline?

That's not quite what I heard. I heard that they'd been convos about headlining. What I don't know exactly is the details of those convos.

I'm now thinking that it was probably a convo similar to what I heard around Kasabian, of stepping up to headline if another more-preferred act wasn't able to do it.

sounds exactly like the type of conversation I'd expect Flo to be having atm. So either Fleetwood Mac play or Flo steps up if they cba. sorted.

Noel said a week or two ago that he would want to play the Friday or Saturday rather than the Sunday because he wouldn't want to stay sober all weekend. Sounds like he's planning on making the weekend of it whatever happens.

I've heard a few stories from people on here about bumping into Noel at the festival.

I don't think he's too small to headline at all, but I'm not sure what I'd make of it. Even as an Oasis fan and as a fan of his debut with HFB, I'd have mixed feelings.

I'm not overly keen on having to walk away at the end of a set with piss in my hair, y'know
