You can't be as naive as to think that big ticket sellers are always gonna be big at festivals like Glastonbury, Zac. He did a song that will put him on drive time compilation CDs for years to come so it's not a surprise that he's still a big name, but that's not to say Glastonbury should still give a toss. Otherwise Glastonbury lineups might as well read like the various Flashback/Let's Rock festivals they have.

Even if it were true that he dines out purely off the back of one song - which it isn't, every album he's ever done has made the top four, as indeed did the lead single from the current one - Glasto books acts that haven't been relevant for years all the time. See also: Dolly Parton. I seem to remember she went down rather well.

If it were true that he was only suited to Glasto when You're Beautiful was inescapable then why was the last time they booked him over three years after its release? True album three didn't do so well but thanks in part to his twitter account he's had a resurgence just lately.

If they want to fill a mid-afternoon slot on the Pyramid with a fairly cheap act who is touring, would get a big crowd, and can get said big crowd singing along, then he's your man. If he doesn't turn up then, well, never mind, but I'd understand if he did.

I apologise if that came across as a bit stan-ish, I'm not even a massive fan, I do just feel you were being a bit disrespectful. :)

The only reason we're still talking about him, or anybody remembers his name, or anybody buys his albums or tickets today is because of You're Beautiful. The name he had built up off of that led to him being booked in 2008. He has had a resurgence because of his online personality yeah, I'll give you that, but if it wasn't for You're Beautiful then nobody would be tweeting him in the first place. In fact I think most of his retorts are about that, As big as that single made him, it's also attached a stigma to him as that's the song people go to see, and those who don't like that song probably won't give his stuff the time of day.

I don't think his music is any less suited than it was, nor do I think he'd go unnoticed at the festival, but I don't think it'd be within Glastonbury's interests to book him. Spandau Ballet and Enrique Iglesias are selling out arenas and are more popular than Kelis or The 1975 because of some very big songs yet I don't imagine Glastonbury would be approaching them.

He's nothing like being in the same league as Dolly either. In fifteen years time he has the potential to be in the same league as Shakin' Stevens and opening the Pyramid but that's it. :P

I think there is a clear difference between what some people think Glastonbury is and what others believe.

As one of the older guard, I openly admit to cynicism and complete despair at some of the non-entities and mainstream dirge being mentioned on here for major slots.

Doesn't offer great hope for the future.

I do kind of understand where the suggestions come from as it's one of the biggest mainstream music festivals in the world with a stage that plays host to a lot of mainstream musical acts but I just figured that just means you're gonna get the likes of Lily Allen and Disclosure rather than Nicki Minaj or John Legend or something.

So as an "old guard" do you want the same headliners year after year without anything fresh?

...of course you do. But where does that leave the rest of attendees wanting something different & newbies?

I want something fresh and different of course.

I can think of half a dozen Pyramid headliner candidates without any commercial garbage.

I just liked to think of Glasto of steering clear of the kind of lineup you would more readily associate with V. It should be the pinnacle

Mind you there has been a fair amount of nonsense on the Pyramid over the last 10 years or more so the view is well out of date I admit.

Well I think the fest will have to go through a few shitty headliners as there ain't much around, not their fault.

I'd rather have The Vaccines or Taylor Swift headline than Muse/Coldplay again, it'll cause some inches in the papers & anyone new will want to put on an amazing show.

I can't see them ever playing, Glastonbury don't tend to book acts like them, not in high positions anyway.

But why? They don't book acts like Metallica but they did this year.... I know Green Day probably aren't as big as them but I think they'd be a great headliner, they put so much into their live shows!

don't see it ever happening. pop/punk isn't really represented at all at Glastonbury. Metallica headlining made a big statement as it was so far removed from the normal Glastonbury headliner. Green Day? nah, it'd just be a bit of a weird booking, especially now as they seem washed up (again)

If they're still doing festivals next year and the proposed new album appears, Outkast should definitely be considered.

Really enjoyed their show this summer and they've headlined almost every other major festival now.

i've not heard entirely great things about their shows. i saw them play Wireless (where they subbed Bruno Mars) to an uninterested crowd so my opinion has been kind of skewed, but reports from the likes of Bestival have been patchy at best (mostly Big Boi seemingly giving it his all and Andre appearing to give less of a shit as each show goes by). i doubt they'll be sticking around for much longer, especially as both apparently have solo albums in the pipeline

Like what?

If Metallica can play, so can Green Day.

Floorfiller's post pretty much covers my point. I'm not saying they couldn't play, just that I don't think it will happen. Can't think of any pop-punk bands who've played prominent slots at Glastonbury in recent years. I think that if they were ever going to play it would have been 5/10 years ago when they were more popular than what they are now.

I'd absolutely love Green Day to play, and what's more is that they'd rock the place.

Such a quality band. And one of the many bands who the Eavii have been a bit oblivious to booking. And considering that apparently there is a bit of a shortage of headliners, why not give them a go, with their many years of experience surely they can deliver top quality sets on the biggest of stages. Oh yes they can, Reading 2013 was a paradise of a show for any rock fan.

Are they big enough? Of course, household name, pioneering band of their genre.

They could and really should play.

I'd only argue that they aren't really in the public eye anymore, so booking them without a new release may look very odd.
