bocumaroy
I'm beginning to think that headliners might be booked based on a combination of the preferences of the organisers and popularity within the festival's demographic, rather than my top 10 last.fm plays list. Which is disappointing.
tweed1981
Maybe its just that festivals have become more popular therefore the range of music at them has become more broad, Glastonbury being no different? There are people I know that would not have dreamed of going to a festival 10-15 years ago, but now its just the norm and they go to 2-3 a year. dirtymookie
If music continues to go more and more mainstream and banal in terms of what is popular then Glasto will do likewise unfortunately. It doesn't take away from the fact that Glasto will always have great music. It just means that for a lot of people, that music will increasingly be found mainly on the smaller stages. It will probably also see the continued growth of some of the better boutique festivals that don't book acts based on commercial success. Do you really think music is getting more mainstream? The "charts" and music channels are, but there's so much new and independent stuff around now if you look hard enough. Far more easy to discover than when I was first looking in the very early nineties. Music is a lot more accessible now than it has ever been. I suppose in terms of headliners you may be right though unless the Eavis's get very brave.

I was referring to what is regarded as 'popular music'. The diversity of music available is really good if you're willing to do a wee bit of looking, and 6 Music throws up some good new acts as well. I've succumbed to the Spotify subscription pressure and spend a fair bit of time checking out new stuff from good playlists compiled by others, and the recommendation of decent critics and people on forums. As one or two have said, I wish they got brave enough to give the Saturday night headline slot to Sigur Ros. I genuinely think that set would go down in Glasto folklore as something unbelievable Edited December 1, 2014 by Space Shanty

stocky3000
Seen UK and European exclusive but never a Worldwide one before, bit extreme though Agree, doubt there is much overlapping with North American festival goers and European festival goers to make that a necessity
Sketchead
I wonder how much they were paid for a worldwide festival exclusive. Fuck me.
stocky3000
Alot of value in that festival ticket now, the weekend ticket isn't much more than they were charging for their o2 dates!
A13
Looks like Glasto is 100% no then. Shame.

Bisque
The amount of money involved in this exclusive will be massive. I know the undercard at IoW can be weak but I wonder if this will affect the two other headliners.
Gucci Piggy
As said, they probably didn't pay for a worldwide exclusive; it's probably just the case that they aren't playing any other festivals because they don't want to. IOW probably paid them a shit ton to play anyway, though.
willutalk
F*ck Fleetwood and IOW for that matter. Glasto would have been a far better, less self indulgent choice. The Eavii should feel sorry for themselves.

The Eavii should feel sorry for themselves. What an odd post. They're perfectly entitled to play another festival, and if they're being paid loads to play IOW over Glasto then the Eavis haven't done anything wrong. Maybe Muse chose to play DL instead of Glastonbury because they were offered more money. Does that mean they're self-indulgent?
dentalplan
If they were genuinely lined up last year and pulled out with the window open for them to play this year, then going to IOW is a little bit off. That, however, is just conjecture and you can't really blame them for choosing a better offer at a similarly prestigious festival if they have. They suit IOW down to the ground anyway and I'm glad that Glastonbury have swerved booking another well outdated act.

The festival wouldn't have lasted 4 years, let alone 40.
michael eavis' beard
If you look at the ticket prices/packages for their US and UK tours it's hardly surprising they've gone for what must be a hefty pay day.
the wonderwhy
If day tickets are the same as last year it would be cheaper to see them at IOW than at their own O2 gigs (excluding the shit level 4 seats)

I've got no interest in seeing them and would much rather see someone like Florence given a shot at headlining.
