If they were genuinely lined up last year and pulled out with the window open for them to play this year, then going to IOW is a little bit off. That, however, is just conjecture and you can't really blame them for choosing a better offer at a similarly prestigious festival if they have. They suit IOW down to the ground anyway and I'm glad that Glastonbury have swerved booking another well outdated act.

Great post.

Imagine the scene at the Festival Office yesterday

"folks, quick, just found out IOW are announcing Fleetwood Mac on Monday. We need to get something big and exciting out fast to trump it before they do

OK, no problem - if they're going for FM let's raise them with Lionel, that should do it!"

chuckles and walks away

I've just been thinking that

Glastonbury throwing their big boy toys out of the pram

If that was the case i'd've kept quiet about Lionel, let IOW have their moment and then let the Legend Slot news slip out later in the month like Granny's vile silent fart after Xmas dinner

Well, both FM and Glasto confirming they weren't doing it never stopped morons thinking it might happen. Don't see why them doing IoW would make things any different.

aye

'twas terribly unlikely before but after 'Tallica someone putting an 'exclusive' tag on them doesn't make them less likely.

I don't think Metallica is a comparable situation.

Normally when festivals have genuine exclusives, they tend to shout about it in no uncertain terms. Even long before Metallica were announced for Glastonbury, Sonisphere weren't mentioning the "exclusive" in most of their marketing material, and when they did it was with fairly vague language.

In comparison, "worldwide festival exclusive" is pretty clear cut.

i think I may have worded that badly

point was they weren't playing before today

so the words 'festival exclusive' being tagged on them elsewhere doesn't make them any less likely to play

and from another angle 'exclusive' can be taken not to mean anything anyway, so if they hadn't already made it explicit they wouldn't be at G15 it may not mean much

take your point 'worldwide' exclusive is more decisive sounding than Soni's language ever was tho

:)

'Worldwide festival exclusive' seems almost too ridiculous to be true, is there any chance this could be a bit of exaggerating from IOW to bag a load of ticket sales even if they might be told to take it off in the near future?.. I just can't imagine Fleetwood Mac only playing one festival out of all the festivals across the world in 2015.

Why not?

It's not like they're regulars on the circuit - they've played about 5 in the last 40 years.
