It's not as if they were making a loss before - they've just decided to make more money by going more commercial. Wouldn't go as far to say they're selling out but hearing of a new Black Keys albums doesn't get me excited anymore.

Just because they're making music which some would consider more populist doesn't mean they are doing it as a commercial decision. Maybe that's just the music they really like and want to make?

Very unlikely, they're not going to play lower down the bill if at Glastonbury if they're headlining IOW and I'd be really suprised to see them headline.

Agreed. I think Glasto can kiss goodbye to the IOW headliners. Obviously a bit of a shame about Fleetwood Mac, but I'm sure they'll reserve their real grief for the loss of Pharrell Williams. They must really be kicking themselves over that one.

The Black Keys turned down a lot of money early on in their career for one of their songs to appear in an advert and they regretted it for years. To be fair to the lads, they have worked incredibly hard for their success.

Pharrell could go either way for me. His Coachella performances looked ace with all the special guests but he seemed to be phoning it in at T in the Park.

He also seems to reserve all of his worst music for his own solo albums. The NERD stuff is ace as was most of the stuff produced by the Neptunes.

saw him at Wireless and it was all very pantomime-esque. not much of him actually singing / rapping (and when he did, it was terrible) and a lot of holding the mic out to the crowd / pulling people on stage etc - basically doing anything to avoid actually having to sing. he has the tunes, but he seems like a shit performer

it's almost like the clamour for his current revival is founded on his skills and trackrecord as a producer and writer rather than than in any interest in him as a singer :-) which would explain why the album fell off a cliff and why Marilyn Monroe did nothing in the charts despite being a tune

Like A Prayer is ok, got some pretty dud songs on there though (Til Death Us Do Part and Jessie to name two). I do wonder how many people who say they love Like A Prayer have actually listened to the whole album...

With regards to miming - she does have a backing track for the more energetic parts of her performance but she also always sings most of her shows live. And she ain't too shabby at it either.

I can't believe anyone who has any instinct on pop music can think Confessions is anything less than brilliant. It's the most consistent record she's released, not a dud song on it.

Just to be clear, I meant the song not the album. There's no way I'd be arsed listening to a whole Madonna album.

I really think we will get Coldplay next year.

I'm not overly fussed but this new album announcement makes me thing they will be doing festivals next summer.

They'll be announced for RW soon I reckon.

word we've heard is that a stadium tour is most likely (for the UK, if not elsewhere).

Chris Martin today suggested this could be Coldplays final album. Personally I think they'll tour 2015 Europe / Americas, early 2016 Aus maybe South America then have a swansong at Glastonbury 2016.

Love or hate them given the history between the band and festival, Glastonbury is the perfect place for them to bow out as a band.

Yeah looked that way on the streams of festivals I watched last year, at Coachella he blamed the dust and I think there were some news articles about him being ill around when he done T/Wireless. As I remember reading something him not wanting to pull out.

Still could just be a cover for him being a shit performer.

I think people are misinterpreting the album being "like the last Harry Potter book" thing.

He just means it's gonna be shit.

Yeah when you read the actual quote, its nothing of the sort about it being the final album for the band.

Could just be planning a long break/meaning a different direction. (Like Biffy Clyro was saying about the last 3 albums being a chapter they are done with now.)

what is the history between coldplay and the festival? They've played a few times. So what?

When the festival was having trouble with getting it's license, Chris Martin stuck up for the festival apparently.
