i enjoyed Lana Del Rey. was nothing spectacular but as a fan of her music and being quite deep in the crowd i recall her being quite good

She really is a spoilt, grumpy girl, who by chance has produced some music that has clicked with quite a few people. Not a live performer at all for me.

Spoilt and grumpy are stupid insults to be leveled at an artist. Privelege and melodrama are rife in both good and bad music, but she's always had a lot of flack relating to her integrity that most men would never have to face. I don't see how you can write it off as chance. You can write it off as shit, sure, but having several hit songs isn't chance.

I've got to disagree with that. I didn't see Lana Del Ray, but I've heard very mixed reviews. This comment, however, made me think of Primal Scream last year. I'd had tickets to see them on tour the previous year but had to miss it through illness, so I was chuffed when they were announced for Glasto. When they came on, though, Bobby Gillespie was clearly convinced that everyone in the Pyramid field was only there waiting for the Stones. In my opinion what a proper performer, who cared about the audience (even if only a small number are really interested), should have done in that situation is put on a good show, with the attitude of 'even if you all want to see the Stones, let's have a party while we're waiting!' Instead, he spent the whole time swearing at the audience and probably alienating those who were there to see them.

Ego and arrogance are all very well, and probably necessary to some extent in the music business, but if they get in the way of a good performance they become counter-productive.

Also, gender is irrelevant, anyone can be an asshole.

As a lover of the scream, i wouldn't expect (or want) any less from Bobby.

But better than going to another stage though, right?

Indeed.

I was desperate to watch the last three on that stage, and, my friend wanted to watch Lana Del Rey. After not long of her set I realised I wasn't gonna enjoy it (despite enjoying some of her songs), but decided there was no point going elsewhere and pissing him off when I'd be back here soon, anyway, so just stayed until she was finished, had a nap, and then had a great time from him onwards (regardless of Jack White being a bit shit).

I was there and it wasn't a good gig. I'd blame the crowd more than them, but it wasn't really what I was getting at, he was criticising her as an artist not her performance or attitude on one day.
