Just out of interest, what is the split between those who have attended public schools and those that haven't that have headlined Glastonbury over the last 10 years?

I'd guess that (for UK musicians only) it'll be less than the public school average for musicians (apparently 22% nowadays).

But that would make sense, as the public school thing is more prevalent today than it was 10 years ago, and it takes a while to work up to headliner status.

If people that attended public school have better songs than bands that did not then they deserve to play at Glastonbury. Who really gives a toss which school someone went to?

I can't wait to rub shoulders with posh people at Glastonbury. It is the opportunity to meet people and have a laugh with people that I would not normally get a chance to.

Shouldn't be a problem, there are an awful lot of posh people at Glastonbury these days! ;)

If you still still give a shit about class, and dislike a band or person because they are part of a certain class. You don't belong in todays society, and you're living as if that really effects you anymore.

I don't care if someones richer than me, i don't care if someones poorer than me. I also don't judge people on what type of education they've had either,

But of course if you live in the life of russy, that's all that matters when judging a person. The 70's never ended

It's not about disliking ex-public school people as individuals, it's about disliking the unfair advantages being wealthy affords them. It's about equality of opportunity.

Of course, most poor people are so downtrodden they will defend the rich no matter what.

"I dont care if some people are rich and some people are poor!"

"talent will always rise to the top!"

You are traitors to your class.

It's political stockholm syndrome.

I like the John Steinbeck quote:

"Socialism never took root in America because they refuse to see themselves as an oppressed proletariat, they are all just temporarily embarrassed millionaires"

(or something like that)

I disagree with you. I come from one of the most deprived areas in the whole of the UK. Now I have no problem with the rich or the advantages their siblings get.

I have spent the last 10 years studying so I can try and better myself. I am still studying. I have done this to try and drag myself from the shithole that I was brought up in so that I can make a better future for my kids and hopefully their kids.

Now I will never make the level of James Blunt but I am going to do everything in my power to give my children every advantage in life they could possibly get. That is not being a traitor to my class, that is just doing the best I can.

If any poor or deprived person has an issue with the rich and their advantages then then get up off your arse and do something about it. Don't sit there wallowing in self pity.

Can I ask you mate, do you know what it is really like to be poor?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself or your kids futures.

But wouldn't you prefer that you had a fair and even chance of doing so alongside all other individuals, rather than the rich having contrived a system that makes your chances of succeeding in your aims highly unlikely (more unlikely than it would otherwise be)?

Wouldn't you prefer that the chances were even? It's not about penalising the wealthy, it's about equality of opportunity.

Or, instead, are you aiming to get into the position of the rich to act as much of a c**t as they currently do?

You are buying into the idea that hard work will get you out of the shithole, but why does the shithole have to exist in the first place?

Talent is talent at the end of the day and it doesn't matter how much money you've got and how many leg ups you get through wealthy connections etc, if you ain't got it, you ain't got it...

Not true really. It is more about practice. The 10,000 hour thing (ok some are just ducks to water but not many) so it is access to it but in the end it is just about how hard you practice not talent

he's buying into the idea that he CAN get out of the shithole via his own hard work alone - when nothing of that is guaranteed because we are nothing like a meritocracy.

It's not hard work that counts most for success as things stand, but money and privilege. Which is the bleeding point that Bryant was making.

There's wanting to better yourself thru your own hard work, and then there's money lined up to stop you. ;)
