Florence headlined Bestival a few years back, so if she's got a big new album coming I can see her headlining the Pyramid (sadly!) in a 'there-isn't-anyone-else-so-we're-going-to-pretend-she's-big-enough-ala-Mumfords' kind of a way.

Mumfords were the biggest band in the world at the time. they were definitely deserving headliners, despite how shite it may have seemed. Florence might not seem so assured now but i bet once she releases a new single / the album's announced people will be wondering how they ever saw her as anything other than a headliner. somebody's gotta give her the step up to headliner, and it seems right that it should be Glastonbury

it's not going to, is it? might not do as well as her first album a-la her second album, but it definitely won't tank. i think the long gap between albums will have people gagging to have her back and eat up anything she releases

I dunno....I'm obviously out of the loop on these things, but I dunno if I'm noticing any great clamour for her imminent return...

who are these people who are gagging for the release? No-one on here seems to like her, not even the taylor swift fans!

is she really as popular as you claim? I just cannot comprehend her filling the pyramid field. I feel like her time has come and gone.

mumfords/kasabian I could understand, but florence? it makes no sense to my tiny mind.

there hasn't been much fanfare surrounding it i'll give you that, but then again she hasn't officially announced it yet. i'm guessing once she does (and releases the first single) it'll once again be hard to escape her

I'm certainly not ruling that out, but I still dunno if it's a done deal. Sometimes absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder so much as make you wonder what you saw in someone in the first place.

i could be wrong and she could return as a sub / not play at all, but i'd say that's unlikely. she's subbing American festivals and she didn't get half as big over there as she did in the UK so there must be something lasting to her appeal

Yeah - I think she'll play and it'll be in a high profile slot. I just dunno if posterity will go on to count it as justified - and that'll certainly be the case if the comeback album only does a fraction of the business of its predecessor(s).

That's irrelevant as to whether or not people are clamouring for it.

Not particularly. She's going to get a shit-tonne more press coverage as soon as she announces her album/stuff in this country. And as rubbish as NME there are a rather large amount of people who go crazy for anyone they write about.

Aye - I don't doubt the spotlight will turn back her way.

As an aside, in recent weekswhenever I've looked at it the NME is now as retro-orientated as yer Mojos and Uncuts. It's an odd road for it to head down, but it's a significantly better periodical than it was this time last year. It actually has some content again.

who do you suggest? 10 realistic alternatives please.

FWIW The Maccabees are certainly not Pyramid-sub level.

Mark Ronson, Kylie, Bassment Jaxx/Underworld/Faithless type dance act, Morrissey, Hot Chip ... (London Grammar?).

Just off the top of my head. Not saying all are totally realistic or even big enough, but hopefully we don't get three indie guitar bands.
