She'd only just released her first album at this point, and got a reception like this.

I understand we differ in views wooderson, but this is clearly something that you won't understand.

I'm with Matt, she's obviously not for everyone but I think she's massively enjoyable live, she would and hopefully is going to put on a massive memorable show

Yep, but in fairness you could have said the same about Bowie and he pulled it off on the pyramid...

Woah there. It may not be widely known, but Outside was an excellent album.

The bloody Pet Shop Boys ruined his reputation with that godawful remix of Hallo Spaceboy. The original version of that track was incredible.

Jessie j got an even bigger crowd. So did duffy. So what?

Except from look at Jessie J and Duffy now, scratching hard to keep a career.

Whilst flo has only got bigger since that performance, You could argue that was Jessie J's peak.

I know we disagree on many things russy but can we agree that Jessie J is beyond awful, and so awful she is beyond comparison with any other artist?

Cliff?

Would be preferable.

Plus she played the festival four years in a row - she is a "friend of the festival". Meaning if they are gonna promote a British artist to "headline status" a year they don't have vintage bands lining up to play ... it is likely to be her. Much like Mumfords.

This isn't the Florence Welch appreciation forum, infact most people here don't seem to like her. And nobody is trying to suggest she is going to be a massive headliner, or would be booked ahead of the likes of Fleetwood Mac, ACDC, Prince and any other massive names they wanted this year. But when all these people aren't available, she is better than the fucking Vaccines.

The stupid thing about this thing whereby big artists still 'aren't big enough' is who else are people expecting? Eavis has even said himself most acts that can headline Glastonbury have already done so, and it's obvious the Eavises don't take that much pride in recycling headliners. The ones that haven't have either split or are of a questionable state, or choose their own shows every time. It's at a point where if Florence and the Machine or Noel Gallagher or The Libertines aren't big enough then who actually is?

right you two stop it, that is much too much sense to be talking on this tread. This tread is about wild speculation, or moaning about the "other options"

right so lets get back to it :)

Fuck it, she's fine to headline. She'll have a hell of a lot of people there. Especially the 'typical' Glastonbury girl. And having seen her 3 times and work up the bill I actually may watch some of her set. All of us music geeks need to just let it go.

(for the record I am completely sober)

I've been watching people bickering all day. I do wonder what constitutes a big enough act or a 'glastonbury' act to satisfy some people on here. I can take or leave Florence and saw her at Bestival. She'd be fine. Not the best thing ever but fine. Who knows, if she did headline she could be the biggest surprise in a long time and put in a career defining performance. She is certainly a 'glastonbury act' whatever the fuck that even is.

Some acts that should have aced headline slots have bombed and some who were questionable who have risen to the challenge. Some choices are premature or odd or wild but isn't that why we like the festival? They are the pioneers, the renegades, the groundbreakers. If you want safe globe stoppers got to IOW, T or V. I'll take Glasto's eye and ear for talent and their risk taking over the prospect of a Killers, Kings of Leon, Kasabian line up.

Also for a forum that says "its not all about the headliners/music" the whole time why are we getting so worked up over one act? Who knows, New Order, Depeche Mode, Orbital, Flaming Lips, The National, Nine Inch Nails, Michael Jackson or Elvis could be on the Other Stage for all we know right now.

How do you get that from watching a video of her performing?

exactly, I feel like some users find any excuse they can to hate someone.

You might not like her music, but her on stage PERFORMING is probably going to be different to how she is in person. Pretty sure pr**** isn't like that all the time

Edit: scrap that

Edit: I also added **

At Leeds in 2012 I watched Florence while waiting for Kasabian and it surprised how good of a performance she put in and how many songs I recognised! I can see why she's being seen as a headline act and why not? If we aren't giving people like Florence a chance then headline acts will just die out and we will have the same bands headlining over and over again

Well here is Flo's entire Bestival show. I must have seen about 5 mins of it whilst trying to meet up with people & I hadn't a clue what song she was playing at the time but it did look better than her daytime set at Reading a month earlier. Ran off to see Sub Focus.

I know I don't listen to commercial radio, but I have honestly never heard that song in my life before.

Yeah it's not one of her bigger hits. I do think she's got a fair few well known songs though. Dog Days Are Over, Rabbit Heart and You've Got the Love were all pretty big singles from the first album, while Shake It Out and Spectrum were similar from her second.
